Pip-boy chat system

I'm not sure if it was suggested before, I mean not simple in-game chat, but with help pip-boy, quest and caps.
If someone will say it's not in priority, then it could be done later I just want to give idea how it can work + I'm not sure what part of development it'll take, I don't think devs who making balancing will do that, it means it won't slow down balancing thing.

Every character that has been created will have the same pip-boy as now.
But, if you bring to Renesco glasses which you should find... somewhere... he'll reward you on your choice:
1) You asking for reward, and Renesco says "Thanks" and giving some jet and XP.
2) You can say that it wasn't a problem and you don't need anything, and:
2a) If you don't have 5k caps in inventory he saying "Thanks" and giving a bit more XP.
2b) If you have 5k caps in inventory he offering to you to buy and implement into pip-boy chat system.
2c) If you have 5k caps and don't want chat system, then Renesco does 2a.

Pip-boy chat system:
Allows to you to add wastelanders there if they have this system too, if they don't have it, or player doesn't exist, pip-boy will say that accound is incorrect.
Adding player there allows to you to talk to him with:
/b
/c
or something.
This option will allow you to add one or more players who will hear you from that system.
Quest shouldn't require anything to start, anyone with any stats and skills and level can start this quest, you only need to find these glasses somehow (or do something else for Renesco)... and have 5k caps.
It'll look like that (I made all copy-paste of fonts and etc. with help paintbrush... so yeah, it doesn't look good, probably):

+there can be added statuses of GM-team, if GM don't want to be visible to catch fast reloggers and dual loggers, his status always will be "Unknown".

Its so basic thing to have a chat that I say that this thing doesnt need to be activated by a quest. Simply, pipboy has this function.

You could add players as your friends/buddies with a command /friend nick or right click at some person and some icon from the menu.

Im against radios, but if we would like them to be preserved. The chat would be in a window inside PipBoy or maybe with use of some command like /say nick xxx

this way it would still be better to speak through radio

What if I don't want to use voice chat program, so I have to alt-tab everytime to say/read something.
Everyone uses out-game chat systems anyway, so global chat exists really, but not implemented in game.
I introduced it as quest, and I hope it'll be something hard + caps to prevent it using instantly after you create a character and mostly will be used by main characters, so every alt will need to complete this damned quest and pay caps to have this system.
And why this thread is still opened? ^_^ Close it then.

Its not global, just between your buddies and with a list of them online/offline. come on this is minimum for a MMO to at least see your friends online.

Alt-tabbing better, than taking damned radio and holding in off-hand, so... radio gives only distress calls, nothing more.

Ok. when youre in a big faction on some TC or hunting - yes. But other times when you want to check if they are in the game because no one is at the base you just assume everyone is carrying a radio in their active slot? Wrong. Besides, this online/offline status of your buddies is just a small thing for MMO users not to seek their friends somewhere else. Instead of going on mumble/IRC/w/e we could have some basic communication/status system that does not force us to use third party programs - mumble/irc/etc

Ok. So disregarding the chat thing. The status could have a description like: Online:NCR

Ofc almost everybody, who takes part in any player-driven faction use their radio ONLY to create /h locations.

Any other communication issues are solved by using icq/skype/mirc/whatever.

All that RavenousMouse offers - is to make such things mor3 convinient and easy-to-use for newcomers.

Guess you folks'll have to stick with Mumble.

More like with PipBoy. Maybe it does. But until something is done to keep players with in game communication or fonline will always be one out of many things we do

I could be wrong, but I don't think that it would be that hard to do. Just give players the same characteristics/flags/tags/perk/whatever as a radio.
