Area controlling
« on: July 21, 2010, 12:38:10 pm »

My suggestion is simple and i will try explain it properly.

Whole suggestion is about Area Controlling(AC). Your gang could control some Area. It would have bonunes(like increase speed on map for players from gang or other things which we can discuss here in topic).

I have some examples how it will look.

Here i have example on map

Its only example(I dont mean Controlling VC), we would control Gordon Gas Station or Mariposa. This colorized squares you will can on/off by some button to show/hide them.
Whole Controlling procces will have same progress as in Town Controlling.

Info about AC will be in PipBoy too

I created this suggestion beacuse we, players what are interested in TC will have more options in PvP on server.
Those Areas will bring bonuses to gang(members) who controlling them.

Range of Area would be small, not too big.

If Area will be near town so yes i think that there would be option in sheriff dialog. If this Area will be somewhere in wasteland, like Mariposay it will be from some computer or i dont know.

I think that if something like that is implemented it will be for NPC-driven factions. Devs already said many times they had great plans for them. By the way, I like it, it reminds me of Cryofluid's suggestion. I would like to know few things more :

- How do you guard one square ? When you control for example Klamath, you also control automatically the area near Klamath ?
- What happens if you are in a square guarded by a faction ? What does it change ?
- Are you rewarded for controlling one area ?

1 - You will control whole Area(like on screen, you will control all Area arround VC) from one place(in towns from sheriff, from random location(Gordon Gas) at trader), You will guard area by guarding some place as in TC, maybe bigger.
2 - You will control whole Area, not alone squares.
3 - And yes i think that there would be some small reward for control one Area. Rewards by bonuses or disposable rewards.

I am very sceptical if you are talking about NPC driven factions.. We have raiders, nobody plays it. We had NCR army, moderated by GM, nobody plays it now... Only solution is to connect "NPC faction" to player controled factions (like guilds).

I.e.:. Vsb is anti-pk faction, so we will join this faction, if there would be benefit for us from this, and pk factions (rogues, red dots,..) would have their own guild...

izual meant enclave, BOS, vault city, and the current factions, nobody uses them because of the simple fact that tehre is nothing to do there except for gaining proffesion levels and getting acess to specialised crafting equipment.

i understand.. but i dont see any progress in this, if there will not exist one new quest in cca 10 days.. rather than this, connect this factions with player factions

Yes, I meant those. Lordus, NCR Army is a roleplay project and has nothing to do with NCR faction or anything. Gordulan is right, for now nobody joins Vault City, Enclave, Raiders etc. except for getting crafting professions. I am convinced that it will change in the future, and one of the possibilities to make NPC-driven factions attractive is simply to set up this kind of area control. I remember Pozzo saying that player-driven factions have already too much power in the Fallout world, and I tend ot agree with him. You can control one town, why would your gang control Vault City's area too ? This kind of area control is perfect for NPC factions global scenario, in my opinion.

Hololasima you did not answer my second question : What is the difference between the system we have now, and the "area control" system ? How do you "control" one area ?

It's epic, but shouldn't it be sort of controlled on the spot so that the new maps like gas stations etc. could be used a bit more for PvP? Also, if such areas didn't have any militia (which makes sense) and didn't provide any items/caps (maybe low tier ones, like nuka cola for example) but some slight bonuses like increased travel speed it could be an alternative for gangs that aren't top tier/do not want to be in a big alliance. All in all can't say a bad word about this.

Difference is that we would have more options in PvP. I dont want replace current system by Area Controlling but only complete current system. You wanna control City ? Yeah you can. You will wanna control small place in desert and area arround ? Yes you would.

On places like Gordon or Mariposa or etc isnt militia, not some chest on rewards. You will just control Area on map and from this Area you will getting bonuses and etc which we can discuss.

Getting some speed bonus, outdoorsman bonus for controlling particular areas of the Wastes sounds good to me.

I still dont get the speed bonus. You would get speed bonus on the entire world map or your your piece of land? What if your have 2 areas? The effect accumulates? Or you get a different bonus after having 2,3 or 5 areas?

It is hard to speak about your idea because we don't know what devs plan to do with NPC-factions.

Once again : Dear devs we need more info about what you are working on !!
We do a lot of suggestions but we don't even know if you notice them or not  :-\
