new skill advancement (automatic not manual)

Hello

I am new in this forum / game but I am old player in fallout world.
I want to say thank you for this mod/game. It is very good although very hard.

As for my suggestion (yes I haven’t scan the forum to see if it already is) :

I know that the level cap is here to stop the players to be jack of all trade, but what if the advancement of skills wasn’t in the direct hand of the player?
My suggestion is to remove the skill points and add a automatic skill point distribution based on what the character is doing. What I mean is if a character spends time in the wilderness / map he has a chance to increase the outdoorsman skill, if he uses melee weapons his melee skill may be increased. The higher the current skill is the harder it is to get increased.

With this system, I think, to be a jack of all trade, would take very much time. With this skill advancement you may have infinite number of levels (or at least many more).

What do you think? Is that possible / viable?

I think you know what everyone will answer to you. ;p


But this system can suit other MMORPG good. Also it's easy to avoid jack of all trades even with this system. Just make ammount of points that you'll get with your IN till 21st level and it'll be your limit. Making skills Combat, Sneak and Social.
Getting 21st level and using a skill will cause other skills (from 2 others specializations) to drop, so total ammount of SP will not change. You'll just morph and focus on skills, and if you want to change your play style you'll need just to start to use other skills, not create other character.

Even if someone will make this system one day on thier own server, the only thing will be changed is: less alts. Nothing more. ;p

well what i really meant with this system was a way to eliminate the Alts. with this you don't need to change character you just focus an a new path with the same char. ;D

Btw you forgot about SPECIAL and perks and traits ;p
If it'll stay unchanged, then this system won't even affect anything, because your perks and stats can't be universal, you can't be good BGer with sniper stats and perks, and of couse try to become a sniper from HtHer... so people continue to create alts for crafting, sniping, BGing and HtHing separately.

<long future> it will be soon... Of course it would be good, but the perks would be a problem or would you have professions like in Wow that means you get skill points for participation in one faction... would be nice... soon
