Bounties (A very unknown feature) Loc: The Hub
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:28:30 pm »

An unknown feature to more than 3/4 the population of FOnline, at The Hub if you go to the sherrif (POLICE) will be on the building, have at least 1000 caps or more to set a bounty on ANYONE.

There will be two options concerning this.

What bounties are out there?
I wanna put a bounty on someone's head.

How it works is whoever kills this person (Must be a player) he can collect his "Dog Tags" and when the bounty hunter gives the Sherrif the tags he recieves his reward for the kill.

If you are putting up a bounty, he will ask for the name: e.g. I use my friend's name of which I will not reveal at this time but I guess the sherrif could tell you anyways >.>.
You press the Say Button, type in name, then click the Move on option and the bounty will be set. and any player who kills him gets the tags.

The best thing about this feature is that the player with a bounty on his head doesn't know it unless he is told by another player, and bounty Hunters always get the Jump on the bountied players. (unless of course powerbuild pkers) so the person paying for the bounty is well worth it, likely making your revenge very easily pissing the bountied player off big time.

Just thought I'd put that out there since hardly anyone knows of this absolutely ownage feature ingame.

And since a friend of the target can kill him in a bluesuit and then collect the bounty, its a pretty flawed feature too.

But unless that friend knows, or the player himself knows about the bounty how would this happen? :P.

It doesn't work.
I'd like a description as to why it apparently "Doesn't work".

Longer respawn timer. 2+ minutes added.

If "someone" saw his name in list and want to kill him to get caps, then everyone of this "someone" can be his friend or even he himself.

Lexx said somewhere in one thread after one test that it simply doesn't implemented, it means: you kill a person, getting his tags(or whatever), bring to sheriff and... nothing, atleast it's how I understood his test.

Stupidest goddamn game mechanic ever created.
Why not? If make level gap strength abit lower, it'll make some sense to not run everywhere in bluesuit smiling knowing that you're a highlander who can do it even after death again and again.
Suicidal bombing? Possible, but anyway it'll consume much more time than before.
Killing someone with SMG at point blank in NCR? Yea, it's possible too... but who cares? And you'll never see players crying "I have 48573458 21st level characters, snipers, BGers, doctors, armorers, EW-snipers, throwers, gamblers and scientists and repairmen and unarmed trolls, this game is boring, let us do something else", because they will die sometime... Yes, it's a bit rought, but it'll solve alot problems, except for newcomers, who always losing all thier items over and over, so with it they also will registr thier character again and again... so yea, that's a bit hardcore, but it'll force you to value your life more than items, and I think it supposed to be so. ;p

Maybe during WIPES RavenousRat but not in real game mechanics.

Well they must be atleast "banned" for a day after death, just set replication time on 1440 minutes and dead player will suffer... a bit.
It will be nice and fun to see offline dead bodies at unguarded towns and NCR bazaar full of offline corpses.
But it'll make alt-problem even more...

Agreed. Or perhaps a jail location.
And a cooldown on bounties, or we have soon a "Kira" placing bounties on every blueshirt they see.

Instead of having the players hunting him down, wich leads to obvious abuses, only NPC bounty hunters should do the killing of the hunt.

Each time the hunted enter a random map or a city map, there should be a 5%, 6%, X% chance a random team of bounty hunters (leather jacket/armor/PA...) to attack.
If the people that see the Hunted recognize him, they could snitch on him ("tag" him with a new mouse button), thus increasing his chance of being attacked by the bounty hunters for Y time.
If the hunted is killed during that Y time, the snitchs can partage between themselves a third of the bounty money. (they need to go check by the sherif of course)
The Hunted wake up naked in the hub jail. He will stay there until someone (a friend, an alt, his hub bank account) pay his way out, which is a half of the bounty money.

This way, the hunted has no interest by having his friends snitching on him and having him killed, since at the best they get one third of the money, and he will have to pay one half, they would be at a loss of 20%.
As long as a bounty is on his head (let's say a week), the Hunted will have to avoid going in town and meeting/fighting other non-trusted people.
Of course the bounty hunters boobytraped their weapon/ammo (maybe even their xp?), so they don't drop any, so there is no use to trap them.
As a treat, I also would add the suicide bomber npcbounty hunter  to the bounty hunter teams (if he kills the hunted, his npc family get the money)

Do you guys see any flaws?
I mean despite the fact that the people with a lots of money could abuse from it, like in real life?

Yes, it's something like that. I had tested it with Wipe and JovankaB when I wanted to make a wiki article for the bounty hunting (got all the screenshots, etc), then we figured it just doesn't work =D

you know what would be a cool mechanic, is that if there is a bounty on your head when you die you lose 5% off your total xp when you die.

yeah, one more obvious abuse, there are always the trolls running about, and they have so much cash that everyone else will have a bounty on their heads, since money isn't an issue, which leads us to the question, why bother implementing it if caps have absolutely no value whatsoever. ( i can put a bounty on about 500 people at the moment, and it keeps rising....)
