Hammer Time! rookie miner's manual
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:55:54 pm »

WARNING! THIS MANUAL IS A BIT OUTDATED. WILL BE UPDATED "SOON", SO STAY TUNED!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to translate this to your native language, feel free to use also all pictures posted here.

Hammer, hammer never changes ...
After last wipe rocks can be mined in a few specific places. Hammer or primitive tool and couple minutes of spare time required.
Basic types of rocks are Iron Ore and Minerals, they look like this:

You mine two pieces of rocks per one dig. Cooldown is 2 minutes, cumulative to 20 - so you can practice hammer swinging until 20 minutes of cooldown appears, and then happily head to nearest workbench, to make more interesting things from those rocks:

Required 40% Science skill, for making Alloys 60%.

NCR
Location:

Deposits placing:
- Iron Ore

- Minerals

The most crowded mine, favourite fun: blocking deposits with smart placed slaves or brahmins.

Junktown
Location:

Deposits placing:
- Iron Ore

- Minerals

To see it on worldmap, you need to crawl near Junktown, favourite fun: stealing from diggers.

San Francisco
Location:

Deposits placing:
- Iron Ore

- Minerals

To the mine you need to go by elevators:

Klamath
Location:

Deposits placing:
- Iron Ore

- Minerals

Favourite fun there is own3ding n00bz:

This kind of fun is performed by people too lame for regular PvP, and also too narrow-minded to find another entertainment.

Ghost Farm, north-east from Modoc - thanks to Dishonest Abe
Warning! This place is unguarded, also sometimes few armed fellas gather here before battle in Modoc.
Deposits placing:
- Iron Ore

- Minerals

High Quality Ore & Minerals - colorful rocks

Orange ones are HQ Ore, cooldown 7 minutes per each. Dirt-white ones are HQ Minerals, cooldown 4 minutes per each.
To make HQ Metal Parts and Advanced Gunpowder 80% Science skill is required, to make HQ Alloys 100%.
Mining HQ rocks is risky, because all of HQ mines are unguarded.
There are two main ways to dig them - noobish: I'm taking only a hammer, get in and pray not to meet anyone, and less-noobish: I'm taking a hammer and also couple of well-geared fellas with me and we are shooting everyone in sight.
HQ mines are in Redding (inside the city), Broken Hills (inside the city) and nearby Gecko (north-east from town, separated location).

Gecko
Location:

Deposits placing:
- HQ Ore

- HQ Minerals

Redding
Location:

Watch out while entering from here - couple of nasty rats live in this part of town!

Entering from here is free from rats.

Deposits placing:
- HQ Ore

- HQ Minerals

Broken Hills
Entrance:

- HQ Ore

- HQ Minerals

- Uranium

It is the most crowded HQ mine due to be close to NCR, the most crowded city.

Scavenger's Life, few words about gathering junk
Junk can be found on any map with city ruins:

After entering map look carefully:

It happens that junk piles are hidden behind walls, and are invisible at the first time:

It also happens that map has some inhabitants already. Quick boots required:

I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay. I sleep all night and I work all day
On the same city maps sometimes trees are growing. To cut them, you need a hatchet or a primitive tool. Only trees with "hand" cursor can be cut, those with "binocular" cursor are only for admire them.

Be a vegetarian
Finding plants is random, I think that it is easily to find them at flat land.
- Fibers - knife (any kind) required!

- Fruits

- Broc Flower

- Xander Root

Cooldown for last two plants is insanely high, I guess to prevent people from massively pimping their tents. This is senseless:

Electro-boogie - gathering electronic parts
Electronic parts can be found in broken computers with "hand" cursor on them. To get e-parts, use Repair skill on computer (30%? required, cooldown is 2 minutes per one part).

- Vault 15, third level

- San Francisco Mine, ground level

- Mariposa Military Base, first level

- Themepark, above Nuka-Cola machine

Flower Child - where to find chemical components
Chemical components are using to make drugs and medicines, like Mentants, Psycho or Radaway.

They are possible to gather at Waterworks Station, couple miles west from Hub.

To get them, you need to use Science skill on this strange machine. 60%? Science required, 3 minutes cooldown per one.

Also they are on second level of Toxic Caves, above Klamath:

Really good! A question - do you plan to update the guide, if a few things are changed in mining (and I'm sure they will change something sooner or later ;) )?
Because if so, then I'd like to make this sticky.

Klamath and Broken Hills mines are missing, but yes - I'm going to update them. I can't do it when topic is sticked?
Every suggestion what to add here is good, even stupid one :>

No, you can modify/or post here regardless if its sticky or not. ;) I was just asking, because if the manual doesn't get updated when new changes occur, than it's missing it's point. But if you say you update it, then it's good.

So -> Sticky.

Nice work Wichura! Don't forget Uranium though. Also, only Combat Knifes and Knifes can be used to cut fiber.

Greate guide, sad it wasn't here few weeks ago though. =)

One thing is bugging me, could you please add here information on "slave mining"? 'Cause I've tried to mine with them, but they were so laggy, slow and uncoordinated.... They all dead now. :|

Dunno about slaving so much, I asked my orphans about them. Stay tuned.
