Is there some issue with the engine or is there a specific reason that grenades, knives, spears etc. don't have a number like weapons do to show how many are left? It would be really convenient to know when you have enough to take out the rest of the enemies and when you have like two left and it's time to run.

Do you mean in the inventory? or when it is equiped?
  You are right, when it is in your hand you cant  tell how many are they. What I do is to calculate the quantity from the total weight, but you have to know how much is it per unit and be a bit fast with numbers.
