well, thought i'd make some kind of suggestion of my own, unless some one else beat me to it, for the forums.

well the name says it all, you know the gun, you like/hate it.

but i did have a idea for a way to make it a little better.

it has been suggested to add the worst SMG of ww2 to FOnline just to give a good use for 9mm rounds.

but i think the sten(ch) gun is not the answer, if anyone knows about history they would know that the Mauser C96 side arm made first by the germans and than later the chinese and a number of other countries was sometimes reworked for full automatic fire and a bigger removeable box mag.

my suggestion is to allow this with the same stuff used to extend the mag in the other weapons, but it would add roughly 20-30 rounds to it and full automatic fire, even if only at shorter range the the 10mm SMG.

reasons to do this:

1: it would add some use for 9mm ammo.
2: it would add a tiny bit more detail to the crafting system, not to mention has something else new players can make, but perhaps a more "simple to make" SMG that you don't need the gun smith profession to make, thus giving it a reason to be made, since its a upgrade not a whole new weapon, but not as good as the 10mm SMG.
3: it can be made as a upgrade for a already ingame weapon, not adding a whole new one with icons and the like.

and i'm sure i could spam made up reasons for it, but i just thought i'd put the idea out there.

i definitly agree with one thing, we should do something about 9mm ammo. Maybe introduce UZI or Mp5? but still your idea is nice

Since the mauser is as powerful as a kitten fart it would be nice to have a use for the ammo.

if the cat only eats wet food than their farts can be quite powerful, trust me on this.

ahm..

anyway, the problem with the Uzi and other SMGs is that they would be adding a whole new weapon to the game.

the main point i am trying to sell this suggestion with, is that it only adds a "upgrade" to a existing weapon, thus, making the game still quite close to fallout 2, while adding a use for 9mm ammo, and adding a nice little piece of history if that gets one off..

UZI/MP5 are too modern (yes I know there were plenty of violations of this, like the Pancor/etc. The rayguns are retro-futuristic so they are ok.)

Jazzing up a Mauser to Machine Pistol status would be cool, like a gun version of the Buggy.

with the stock/carrying case hooked on to it and with a longer 20-30 round removeable stick clip in it, it is kind of a SMG.

but for the use in FOnline it would porbally just be turned to full automatic fire with something like 10-20 rounds in the clip, as the normal version of the gun is fed with stripper clips.

as for the uzi and MP5 thing, i don't have anything against them myself, i think they might work, at least the uzi anyway, thats a pretty old gun as far as i know, not WW2 era mind you, but still not modern.

as for the MP5.. well we have the P90c in our dirty little waste lander hands.. so i'd leave that up to the dev team.

SMG is scaled down machine gun (or automatic/assault rifle), machine pistol is scaled up pistol.

Adding stock/etc. adds mass to the gun, but the action/etc. stay the same.

but also, most 9mm and other smaller hand gun round firing weapons like SMGs and self loading pistols both use blow back action systems to load a new round in to the chamber.

but you are right about the manner in which these weapons came to be, but also if you look at some early weapons like the french MAS-38 you'll see it does look some what like a pistol with a very long barrel and a stock on it.

anyway, i'll wait for the devs or other people to comment before i start a "weapons debate" here.

but i think a Sten is a good idea, also a basic weapon, easily made, and its a cool looking gun too.

i agree with the first part.

second part, that sten won't look so cool one the force of it kicking one spraying bullets makes you pull the clip out, as holding on to the stick clip is the only way to hold it with two hands, which is the #1 thing the germans told their troops not to do with their MP-40s. (holding em by the stick clip)

this and other reasons is why i say the sten wouldnt have a long life in the waste land, easy to make, but due to its problems it would have to be a "fallout future" version of it, other wise the wastelanders would find its flaws to be greater than its good points, and it'd end up in the same pile as pipe rifles, but with a much higher price tag likely.

ummm. guns usually have a clip you have to undo to prevent magazines just being pulled out, that would be terrible design.

Using the magazine as a handle leads to bending it, leads to jams and stress on the clip.

yeah, but its not hard to make a reinforced clip, i mean i would just use a little catch like on a toolbox, just with a stronger spring.
