Special Encounters
Lexx:
Nothing really affects it, as it would just lead to farming.

so uh how would we know then if we found a special encounter? a thunderbolt with a circle around it ? how about making a wiki tab about them? Spoiler free of course lol but like a list similar to those about fallout 1, 2 and tactics on the special encounters... (i.e Bridge of Death, Crashed Whale etc)
and if possible what items can we generally find? ... it would be cool to be able to come across a trader in the wastes selling crap for cheap but make it a rare encounter where one could find lets say decent items at 1/3 of the price... or a dead hero npc ala the easter eggs from f1 and f2 etc... ex a dead Mad Max with a howling dog that will follow you if you have a leather jacket on or offer it some jerky... a crashed car with a dead deathclaw infront of it and the driver 2 feet from the front of the car implying that he hit a deathclaw and crashed, leaving behind a few caps and a laugh? lol...
or do we just walk into a rnd encounter and find items on the ground?.... we really need a wiki tab on this one...
Surf:
I think it's meant to be to not be on the wiki page. ;)
It's about exploring for your own. Try to look for yourself. And Lexx already gave some small hints here. ;)

uh lol no he didn't. And we all look it's just easier to know if there is a difference in the encounter or is it just a flashing thunderbolt and a surprise inside ? .... .... ... a confirmation msg in the bottom left would be cool like you know "This area looks different" "The hair on the back of your neck rises" "You trip, taking 1 hit point of damage" "You find something interesting" "You can see something in the distance" "You hear voices coming from the north" "It looks like someone was just here" dunno, anything. Immersion baby Immersion!
Gatling:
It won't stay secret forever, secrets do not exist that way. People like to share, especially with friends, and they share... think of it like a brushfire, or a zombie infestation. It'll start small but the effect snowballs with time. Exponential increase of awareness? Anyway, just try and enjoy yourself while you can, before these 'special encounters' turn from being actually special, to just another farm mechanic, however distant.
And Good Luck finding something. The loot may be profitable, but the surprise is priceless.
