Is PKING this common?
« on: March 29, 2010, 01:26:54 am »

Three minutes. I played this game for three minutes before I was killed twice. No dialog, nothing. I was one-shoted by vastly more powerful players. TWICE.

...Does this happen a lot? Because I can't imagine the game is really playable if so.

How the hell do you level up, and get materials, if every random encounter can kill you, and literally EVERY human being I've seen in this game is a jackass?

1. You should try to avoid unguarded towns. Go to the NCR or Vault City, there is almost everything you need.
2. You should try to join a faction. It makes your FOnline live much easier and funnier.
3. Increase your outdoor skill, that should help to avoid dangerous encounters.
4. Yeah, it happens a lot because some players seem to have inferiority complexes.

I know the feeling. Sometimes you get some really crappy luck, other times, you won't get attacked ever.

Get down south to one of the lower cities, like NCR or San Francisco.. there's a lot less PKs (at least in my experience).

Once you get enough know-how to get a gun, go find some Brahmins around NCR (1 square N, 1 square W), and get yourself 10 brahmin hides to build a tent in the desert, near the mines, preferably.

I'm still new at this myself, and I've struggled at first, but if you get some friends, it'll make things a whole helluva lot easier. There's always someone around that'll be willing to help you.

My name is Luna Blacke in-game, so if you find me, I'd be willing to give you a hand (not that I can do much, except offer a bit of newbie guidance). I'm usually in NCR, or the mine to the southwest of it.

Good luck...hang in there, stranger...

Just stick to the south. The north is a waste of time. The quests, while tempting, are not worth it. If it makes it more appealing, think of yourself as a burly Texan. That helps me get through my day.

The south will rise again!

How can I get a gun if I can't get any caps? I can't scavenge without dieing, I can't trade/craft without scavenging, and I can't avoid dieing without trade/crafting for things.

And I didn't really have an option on where I start. Boy that would be a nice feature.

How can I join a faction when I've played for five minutes?

This whole thing is about as user friendly as a bear-trap-cod-piece...

...Which might just be what I name my next character if it will fit.

A good (but boring) start to make caps is - brahmin poop shoveling. Or you help the caravan guy at the entrance in the hub unpacking his goods - 200 caps each time. Then you can open a bank account and store your caps there.

Well, just died, again. Random encounter, again. Evidently I'm a bigger target in a mobster/Caravan fight then the people shooting.

This game sucks. I don't know how else to put it. It has a learning curve like running cock first into a brick wall. I tried making a new character, got stuck near vault city, again. Tried to shovel crap in vault city for exp and caps, didn't get either, even after talking to the jackass... Tried walking walking somewhere else, died and lost everything, AGAIN. Woohoo, party time.

I'm actually losing count of the raw number of my deaths. Every random encounter, every player. Its absolutely unbefuckingleavable.

You are doing it wrong!
And, ok, dont you think that all these 500+ players are dieing every encounter too? No they dont.
I'd say: thanks for coming, but it's definitly not your game.

Oh? Ok, I've got to hear this. So what should I be doing, oh great master virus?

Also... was your point everyone else was dieing as well, or not dieing? The first part makes it sound like its common, but then you said "No, they don't." So... its not common?

A cold hard fact about this game is that it is not Solo friendly, hell it's just not friendly period, it's downright murderous. Jumping right into this game by yourself is like trying to kill a bear with a spoon, you will get your shit fucked up over and over and over and over again. A vast majority of the player base are heavy PVP, you just need to deal with that. There have been a number of times when I was walking along minding my own business when someone dropped in next to me and gibbed with with a rocket without saying a word. Didn't even bother looting my corpse after wards either.

You need to get a group together and hash out a plan. Get some crafters to turn out stuff to trade for caps while some combat guys hunt for Brahmin. Get a tent, start saving up for a base. In 2 days me and my mates were all packing guns and wearing armor and had out first base. After the wipe, it only took us 4 days to get the 130k needed for the Outpost base.

You just need to find what works for you and stick to it, the first few levels are a bitch, but once you get established and learn the ropes, it gets easier. First and foremost though, you need some people out there watching your back.

So your advice is to already have experience and a team assembled before I start? I really don't want to give up on the game before getting a real crack at it so lets see...

AND dont forget to turn on turn based, it helps you escape encounters. And also, ALWAYS start running when in an encounter you don't wish to be in.

If you see me ingame, just ask for help. Gussiplurr.
