I have tested a little; it's interesting, but the beginning is hard.
You have to spend some time in newbie zone (until you reach level 5), but it's a nice idea as you can learn some little things.
Maybe it's better after, but when you're outside the newbie zone, it's much harder than 2238.
When you start on 2238 if you want to start to craft you just have to find some flints: you can have easily metal and wood to make a hatchet and a sledgehammer.
On TLA to make those tools you need a hatchet and a tool. Yeah you need a hatchet to make a hatchet as this is the only way to have wood; and you can't craft a tool (never found it on fixboy, but this would probably need metal).
If you have the bad idea to die and to lose all your newbie stuff, you can be sure it's a pain in the ass to get out this situation: no money and stuff? Can't buy a hatchet or a tool, if there's any at the merchants.
Other boring point when you have an encounter you often start it very near the ennemies (I had a 5 PE + low outdoorman character).
Even if you can run and they don't, you're sometimes too near from them to avoid a shot.
If you take a shot = 30 seconds until the end of the battle = death (and you can't run by the wayà
Last boring point, well, tent system in 2238 is very nice. It would be nice to have a place where you can store at least your hatchet and your tool.
The only place I found it's 50K caps house, not so easy to have while you can keep you caps in bank.
I might have missed some points; maybe the beginning is not so hard, maybe you can have a personal safe or a place.
But I don't know.
And the wiki, which is in Russian and incomplete, don't give the informations
By the way, when you see all the stuff in the fixboy you can understand dev have made a good work, a big work.
Too much maybe because it's easy to get lost
