Currently when anyone buys a merc it drives up the prices for everyone else, this means anyone playing the first day post wipe gets dirt cheap mercs and everyone after that has to pay ridiculous sums. For example in gecko it costs almost the same for a ghoul sniper as a ghoul with a spear. It should be based on how many merc YOU have bought and not the entire player base.

This makes sense, but I'd prefer respawning mercs. Mercs at the moment are just money down the drain if you want to travel with them, no matter what they cost.
