this game rarely looked like a game for interaction between players - it has always about gangs and metagaming.

There are workbenches in other towns, not only in Noob California Republic.

I remebre like 3 wipes ago there was a lot of players in towns, now towns are empty.

Gecko workbench, Adtym workbench, Klamath workbench, Hub workbench, Modoc workbench, Junk Town workbench, SF workbench, Den workbench, ....

Some ideas in this thread are quite usefull, i hope devs will take a look on them.

I think removing workbenches wouldn't get more players to towns. The reason for few players is simple the game has no proper manual. There are not much info on how to start what to do except the wiki but its still full of outdated infos which are missleading.
So what happens to new player he goes around trying to make up how the games work. I met many players who had difficult starting, yeah its not new.
Well it seems that starting out is hard since there are not enough infos, metagaming rules the place wich isn't as bad but a bit irritating to see names and numbers Pr0p0nzorB, DieN00b3 or I/L names and the likes of that. Also the immersion breaking leet speak is quite a problem too. And the use of normal talk instead of /o for ooc stuffs though its less irritating then the names with letters and numbers.

Well fuck.
Delete the workbenches from the tents, then, it's just that the playerbase will allow to happen, as always. Nerf something good, devs, after you introduced it. Thanks a lot.

I like the idea to have a workbench with me around the tent or house. If someone want to craft in peace, so be it.

If the npc vendors weren't completely useless for trading there would be more people in town, currently no vendors have caps and if by some miracle they do they don't want to pay you anything for what you have to sell.

Now that you mention that, Roachor: i will make 20 alts solely for crate hauling now. I want my 75K caps that i put in the bugged private mine back. They sure won't come from all the stuff i crafted!  >:(

And now the workbenches will be gone, too!

I definetly don't want to have the workbench removed. I was robbed in NCR while using it. I don't want to be robbed. I just had enough of these little monsters and PKs. Please leave this secure place alone.

There are enough thief trolls without giving them a better reason to hang around.

If it is that much of an issue, make it so only bases get a workbench and not tents (or rather ranger tents)
Or even perhaps remove workbenches from bases but allow them to be added upon completion of a quest

Another possibility would be to make more items craftable without a workbench, which i believe was suggested earlier.
The use of a fire and a super tool with a certain % in repair could be enough to get the job done.

Another could be to make more items require an advanced workbench (although i think its ok as it is for now, perhaps) but have more locations, maybe one in NCR and a few other spots to bring people into the cities that way.

Just... dont remove the workbenches from tents/bases completely without altering something somehow.

Devs, we're trying to make a compromise here. Why don't you say something?

So you want to fill the cities again. So there should be people who want to use the free Workbench in the cities. The cities will be filled again with some people.

The ones who want to craft in quiet solitude, should pay caps for Super Tool Sets and roleplay over their fireplaces.
Cash will be constantly spent, be there will be still people in cities willing to buy STS.

Hey, if that's not a compromise solution?

Don't blame workbench for players not interacting with each other. When I'm craftin I'm like running across the town, only stopping for a brief moment to craft, then with the good that I fear, I get away. Why the hurry? Because of other players. They kill me, they rob me.

If I want interaction then I will go to city for that, and then talk to people. When crafting, I have to flyyyy.

Players not interacting in towns is a multilayer issue.  First if your going into town to craft or trade, most people are not likely to stick around and interact with others.  You are going to leave immediately to get your new gear to a safe location.  Second, trading and tc are bugged atm, so really, why go if you can't do these things?  Third, server numbers are down due to changes made and bugs in the system.  Nerfing work benches from ranger camps and bases could very well decrease server numbers further.  So imo this would not solve the problem.  Fixing the trading, tc and other issues would (I hope) help increase server numbers, as some may be waiting for update before they return.  If server number go up, so should player interaction in towns.
