Useful mercs attack style
« on: March 02, 2010, 10:10:18 am »

Now we have "Don't attack anyone until you get hit".
When this item is choosen at encounters mercs immediately attack aggressive creatures.
It makes impossible to escape from the encounters without a fight.

My suggestion is to create the item "Don't attack anyone until i do not go into fight".
So mercenary attacks no one until I made the first shot.
This will avoid the fight and will make use of mercenaries to protect the owner more useful.

Yes, that would be golden - encounters are presently instadeath for low-hp mercenaries...

Not to start a new topic, I have another merc-related suggestion: we need "spread" alt-menu command to them that would place them so that they have at least 2 hex between each other. That would seriously help non-mutant mercs survive a rocket blast, which is now nearly impossible.

What do you think?

Yes, of course. It also applies to the party entrance at encounter.

Does ordering the mercs to run away not work? Alt - Click -> Order them to run with you -> Exit the map when they are near ->

Do they then join you or return to the fight?

Ordering do run near grid end escape of player in that place was the way I've lost few slaves - they even had nobody to fight with. Now to make sure I set return to auto mode and wait a while until I see them following again.

It worked for me last time. I tried it in TB. Order to Move to (high priority), move him to the grid, move yourself to the grid near to him, set him auto move and leave the map. The only problem is, that in TB I had to wait very long time till he joined me on the World Map. I thought I have already lost him, but if you stay long enough he should join you.

PS: Also to the suggestion - it would be fine. I would even welcome something like "Attack only the person I attack first".

May be because your turn is 30 sec, when you leaving the encounter, everyone there waiting end of your turn. Also, when you left encounter, and, for example, got like 25 more seconds to make turn. But in 2-3 seconds you AGAIN got same encounter with same player you will have your turn instantly and like 17-18 seconds for your turn, that means, you "still exist on encounter till your turn ends". So, you need to wait on world map ~30 seconds, and then your merc/slave should leave encounter too.
