Yeah if you have a base you dont need that, but more people have tents and want to invite others to them, and i am not the only one with this opinion, i saw many people complaining of lacking something like this. When you have a tent and you order your mercs to defend it (in other words to attack everyone not you and your friends), there is no way to show mercs who your friends are and your friends tagged green, or even your alts getting busted by your own mercs. My solution to this would be one more dialogue option with mercs, it would look like this (this just an example):

"Hey, i want to talk about my friends", you press it then 2 more options "I found a very good friend, i want you to greet him friendly" and "That fucker betrayed me, he is no longer my friend". So when you chose both choices your merc asks who is that guy, and you enter his name with "say" command. It would work similar to banker dialogue so i guess it wouldnt be hard to code it, and that would help whole wasteland. What do you think devs? :>

this suggestion even made rusty talk i think devs should do something about that, and i am happy now :D
