Mutated Rats, do aimed eye shots, like everybody else in realtime.  Try around themepark and yes it's about as exciting as it sounds.

tip A , dont use wakazashi blade, combat knife is better most of the time.
if you have any luck and crit perks. hunt molerats or mutated molerats by hitting them in the eyes.

if not i suggest you find a spot where molerats and mantis spawn, they fight eachother so its easy to kill the ones coming for you and then pick of the rest.

not the fastest way but works for me,.

at higher lvl you could go kill centaurs but idk what you are capable off.

Leveling is easy

Molerats -> mutated molerats -> Centaurs/floaters/aliens/deathclaws. (when higher lvl)

This isn't true.

I am leveling my melee in Broken Hills ant lair. After you get in your face, slap on a leather armor and start stabbing. 50 xp each, and they need only 1 stab to die.

I consider the combat knife trash compared to the wakazashi blade. But I recommend using a combat knife since they are easier to replace when training.

Wakizashi was indeed buffed 2 or so updates ago, I remember when I gave one to a merc and was sad because of how bad it was before the buff and how much it would have cost to switch it out, needless to say said merc suffered a death shortly after.
