Whats with the skin hatred?
« on: February 26, 2010, 06:35:23 pm »

They don't give any advantages, handicap the player and are purely a cosmetic change yet half the gms seem to hate it while the other half gives them out like candy (or at least used to). What's the rationale behind this? Why can't players knowingly gimp themselves in order to make the game less boring looking?

I guess there are more important things and features to implement, and "pimping" is far far away. So let's just wait and be patient.

However I miss my "leather jacket" skin, it was so stylish.

I dont think he's asking for some major game changing update to add skins. He just wants to know why they seem so against giving them out in game when someone asks.I dont really understand the problem either, maybe they wory about people bugging them to change it back when they realize they dont like being gimped anymore.I suppose they could just let it be known that all changes are final.

Because players don't deserve it.

Players are only there to donate $$$ and report bugs.

Because they want to look all grown up. When they deny players' requests they feel mature, like parents that won't give kids candies. Parents know better. After all, this is a beta test of a computer game. Serious stuff. No time to waste on something silly as skins. As opposed to throwing shit all over NCR, sending people to Glow, or locking harmless but awkward topics.

ME: ...but I am fully aware of skins' limitations, so it's my decision.
GM: You mean OUR decision.

Up yours then, you patronizing dick.

It has a simple reason:

1. We change skin.

2. Player is happy.

3. Player realizes that he is too slow / can't do shit / reason whatever

4. Player is spam-PMing us or the GMs all day long to remove it again.

Even if we set rules that we don't remove skins after we gave them, we are bombed with requests.

@Lexx
Well, if you get bombed with requests, then having a proper skin is apparently an important part of the game for players.
You might want to consider adding a way for everyone to change skins on their own.
Like a command: ~changeskin <skinID>
I don't believe it would be hard. If a GM can do it, technically anyone should be able.
And you can always limit the subset of possible skins, disabling all the stupid ones.

You guys get bombed with skin requests already,is it really going to matter whether it's to get a skin or have one removed? Most people who ask are usually turned down only to see someone else walking around in the very skin they just requested. If you explain the limitations of the skin thats requested and they agree, then I say give it to them and if they dont like it afterwards thats too fucking bad.Ignoring the request to have skins removed cant be all that different than ignoring the request to have one added.

You don't have to argue with me about it, because I am not the one who is giving out skins. I'm just saying that we get requests all day long, because people underrated the negative effect of a different skin, etc.

Ignoring requests isn't that easy, because we got spammed very hard already because of other issues. In this moments we even thought about simply deactivating this function... which would throw away a good function, that can help players in various - important - situations.

Anyway. I am not the one who decides about the skins. Just say'in.

Well, give some of the skins the players want. If they dont like em, fuck em, their fault. If they keep spamming, kick em. If they keep spamming even after, well, turn them into eggs for a week or so. ALL. THEIR. FAULT.

By the way, why aren't the rest of the skins that were usable in Fallout 1 and 2, such as the redhead female, available? I'd imagine they should work properly.

To tell you the truth i had a skin (not male, female, or long hair-dude) more than 10 times, i knew all its disadvantages, and i still liked it, and by gm wipe i was hunted as witch in middle ages (neither i asked for it to be removed a sigle time or did anything similar), does it really hurt to type a command that makes other happier while playing this game? I remember once izual said, that official policy was to give only humans skins, so we could not encounter talking dogs and similar stuff, and many people want this policy back :>. You could make a rule for example to give skins only on events, who asks skin or its removal without event gets jail, easy to fix this, and everyone is happy. Once izual said that he does not like skins, because ncr looks like circus, but it doesnt, it looks like role-playing town, and thats what this game is about.

On TLA you could change skin at cats paw, if you had 6 charisma and some caps (to a long hair dude). Why cant you do something like that?

It's not like it would be that hard to do, gms can do it so it's already coded.
