It will not be an easy answer, no. It is not intended to be that.

Faction points will be earned through quests, repeatable quests, group PvE, group faction PvP, etc. You'll then be able to spend them advancing up the ranks, buying stuff from your quarter master or for use of the benches. You would essentially be able to live totally inside the faction.

It should be hard to use guarded benches. Every player using advanced bench just like that is wrong. It's advanced technology and it should be damn hard to get using one.

If the goal is to make good toys rare then I don't think it will work.
If you need to play 150h to get a faction to like you and allow you to make those plasma guns then the number of plasma gun crafters will drop. But you only need a few crafters per gang to craft all the plasma guns you can eat. When the craft alts are shared then they can be online 24/7. In the end gangs will have all the gear they want in any quantity, and the rest will have none or just 1-2 good items hidden in tent, worth far too much to use.

I would suggest a finite amount of items (like there can only be 50 gaus guns in the game ), but I won't - it can't work, people would hord items so that noone else can get one.

The system should allow you to make items for your own use or to sell to other players. Making 10000 bb/flamer fuel/.45/spears/whatever to trade it for something else is really stupid...

It would be just better if there was a shop selling top toys for (a lot of) caps only. Gangs that have caps from TC would just buy what they need. Then crafting would be something for small groups and lone players in NPC factions. Making a chain of quests giving access to more and more crafting options would be the way to go. The quests should be doable by lone crafters and loosing a quest item should not give -1000 rep (like some say can now).
...ain't gonna happen? I can dream, can't I?

Generally a big bravo for this. I am doing the BoS quests and now have 700 faction points to my "name".

For example with these points I can now buy a flamer... sure its not anything "big" but honestly speaking the quests so far where really easy and I am just a neophyte/initiate. So yea I hope that with faction PvP and faction PvE and even more quests and some repeatables this has potential.

The key here is to make repeatables for all play levels. Repeatable hard quest with hard opponents for groups and gangs but also some repeatables for loners like myself. Also like now there can always be choice between 2 quests... so you go to the guy in the BoS bunker and he tells you "to become a sergeant/paladin/whatever you need to do one of the two "blahblahblah" like it is now. But those 2 can be of different difficulty for group and for single.

In any case also a question to Solar.

Are the Blue Prints and faction Advanced Workbenches something that will come soon? And by soon we mean a couple of weeks? Cause if yes maybe its worth to keep my faction points until then!

Its not really to make things more rare. It is to add interesting things to the crafting process.

If you are capable of controlling the unguarded benches then you will be able to craft lots more than before under the new system.

We are still in the phase of fixing bugs and systems which are not working properly, so it won't be a couple of weeks. Getting a least a couple of factions up and running is one of the next "new" things we will be wanting to do though.

This thread has clarified a lot for me and I really appreciate your time Solar :) That being said, one last bit of clarification is needed. The way I read it , it seems that every single time you want to use an advanced workbench you will need to spend faction points. Is that true?  And if true, will it be open to you for an hour or so(possibly more?) or is it just a one time use kind of thing?  If it's one time use that wouldn't work cuz depending on the weapon one may not be able to carry all the materials he needs to even make 1 high tier gun.

I think we should found adv workbenchs in every unprotected/tc towns. Makes more players run in those towns and more life in the wastland.
Or maybe just in civilsated towns like BH, reeeding, gecko and maybe den (but it don't rly think slavers are civilisated)

I think there is too much A.Workbench at the moment. There should be max 2 or even only 1

(...)

Hell will freeze before i'll buy it Solar... Is forcing players to contact other players (which forces PvP on them for like 90% probability) the best thing you (yourself or you all devs) came up with for the sake of making crafting more interesting? Coz if so, then i might contribute plenty of my ideas to you guys how to really make crafting more interesting.

Then again you did add blueprints... and for now  it's fail since looking for those is extremely boring...

My guess is that the points would be used to gain access at a given point.  Like to enter the Reno casinos, the Cathedral, and the Gun Runners bench, you enter through dialogue.  I assume you would say "I want to go into that room" and they would subtract some faction points and you'd pop into the room.  Seems like the easier way to implement it.
