Daniel Suarez once made a nice example in his book how intellectual property can be turned into a lawsuit bomb.

A agricultural company hands out free samples of their seeds to farmers. The farmers use the seeds for two seasons, then the company quits their marketing project and prohibit the free use of the seeds. But seeds remain on farmer's fields and one time, they start to grow.

Then, the controllers from the agricultural company head out to farmer's field and take samples.

"A-ha," say the controller to the farmer "you've been growing our seeds and don't pay for it - therefore, you pirate our seeds. Pay up OR ELSE."

I'm sure, some of you have downloaded intellectual property of someone and didn't bothered about paying, maybe because it wasn't explicitely stated that YOU HAVE to pay for it.
