Is the game alive?
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:07:37 pm »

I've just read in a thread that developers abandoned the game. Is that true or just random rambling?

I used to play this game a while back and I had a blast doing it.

Keep your eye on this area:
http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?board=3.0

Checking that quickly tells you that the game was updated two days ago. Also few times before that.

I would call a game with such recent changelogs hardly abandonend. ;)

Cleaning brahmin shit is really one of the slowest ways to earn stuff/money. Look at the Survival Guides/ Game help forums, you should find something useful there.

Yep. Depending on the merchant, you can barter really quite a lot of stuff for basic equipment. Most basic materials for crafting get prices that make it worth going to get them. You simply have to exercise good judgement about whether you can actually survive an encounter you get looking for them. At low levels, this means rats, and scorpions, under some circumstances. You should learn that the best way to deal with something you can't or don't want to handle is to run. And any character can generally run away from random encounters. You keep doing this till you get a fight you can win by punching critters to death, or one where npcs shoot them for you.

You can also sometimes randomly find stuff to sell by wandering around and clicking on the world map. You may get a random encounter, and you may also get an empty one, filled only with you, terrain, and maybe an apple tree, a fiber plant, or some cuttable trees. Another place you can get stuff some merchants buy is mines. You mine some minerals or ore, and either sell that, or convert that into other stuff, and sell it. The only fault there is that everyone is always mining public mines, and you have to wait for the resources to regenerate, steal from other miners, or just glean what people leave on the ground. (One might also attempt jumping people on the tile around that area, but a newb probably can't manage to kill another player easily.)

Hmm...mining was different when I played. They spawned randomly when you clicked around and entered places on worldmap.

Are there specific places now? The old random mines don't exist anymore?

Also: can you guys point me to some active factions? The factions forums didnt yield much, and starting this game without a faction shall be the biggest pain in the world.

All Minerals/Ores are now mined in public places. There are guarded mines where you can (relatively) safely mine near Junktown, San Francisco, NCR or Klamath and then there are unguarded Mines that have High Quality Ores/Minerals near Gecko, in Redding or in Broken Hills.

As for Factions, I don't want to make it look as if I am biased, but there are a few factions who (from my understanding) always take newcomers, it's "The Lost Children", or "Crazy 88" as far as I know. Depending on the language you speak there may be even more, just look a bit around in the Factions subforum.

Dunno what devs got on their mind but all i know is that this is 2 much of good work to abandon just like that...

The game is getting from f1&f2 combined 2gether to a mind blowing hardcore mmorpg game with a lot of new stuff

Just a few tweaks and fixes and i bet this can go into alpha version very soon

This is game is made by hardcore gamers for hardcore gamers if u are below 25 years old this means u didnt live f1 and f2 by interplay back at 94-95 and u prolly wont appreciate fonline 2238 and all the improvements, radical overhaul, newplaces and new features dev team added

Not to mention the bug fixes both the existing ones from f1&f2 and the ones that came up from fonline.

Not to mention the 3d models that has been done even if they are removed most of them atm. (on future this feature might come back personally i dont care much but it would be good to have full 3d models but its not the most important thing)

Even if current devs abandon this project (i dont believe they will) i bet someone else will come around get this started again

All is needed for now is to lighten a bit with proffesions and crafting make just a bit easier to be able to craft not high but med tech gear so peps have fun around and if they get PKed they are not like OMFG just lost the precious assault rifle i will never find another again.... then ragequit the game

i am not saying give free assault rifles but make it possible to craft a med teach rifle for mass production and not only for 10-15 lucky ones that found the blueprint

REMOVE THE PROFFESION LIMIT IS A GREAT IDEA AND ME WANT NOW please ^^

Lighten up the harshness attract new people and let them have fun!

i will help on that by fraping a lot and posting on youtube   ;D

ps. nice work and ty to the creator of fan art videos on youtube   8)
