I honestly don't have any worries.

If this passes, I assure you, there will be major riots.  (not kidding)

Just imagine how crazy people get about random things on internet all the time :D.   Imagine if that happened to ALL of the internet pretty much? ;)

Even if it is passed, it won't last a day or maybe 2 at the most. 8)

I hope you are right.

"It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information," Mr Dodd said in a statement, calling the actions taken by the high-profile websites "yet another gimmick".

Oh shit, word has gotten out to the "common" populace so it's wrong!  Also, 8 backers have left it since the blackout  ;D

Agreed!  There will riots and protests everywhere if this passes.  Americans are pissed off enough with the Government and Corporate America, this will send the general population over the edge.

But let's not forget it's an election year.  Anyone supporting this will not be reelected.  So it will serve as a nice little distraction from the important issues for a time and will probably go away.

Megaupload, one of the internet's largest file-sharing sites, has been shut down by officials in the US.

The site's founder have been charged with violating piracy laws.

Federal prosecutors have accused it of costing copyright holders more than $500m (£320m) in lost revenue. The firm says it was diligent in responding to complaints about pirated material.

Investigators denied a link to recent protests against proposed piracy laws, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The US Justice Department said that Kim Dotcom, formerly known as Kim Schmitz, and three others were arrested in Auckland, New Zealand at the request of US officials. It added that three other defendants were still at large.

"This action is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States and directly targets the misuse of a public content storage and distribution site to commit and facilitate intellectual property crime," said a statement posted on the FBI's website.

Yup : Article here. I hosted a lot of files on there for work related source files and transfer stuff, which I've now obviously lost. Bunch of fucking cunts (apologies for language).

Anyway, as mentioned in the edit to the 3D tutorial thread, Megaupload was where I hosted all the files for those tutorials. Can anyone recommend another simple, straight to the point file uploader? It will take a while to get that stuff all back up there, so if anyone has previously downloaded any of these, it'd be a great help if they could also upload some of that stuff.

Mediafire is a good and convenient uploader, you can store stuff directly in folders too.

And free SVN account or use an FTP server.

they now have all the download logs.

If youre outside of the US, they won't do shit even if you've downloaded some stuff that might been not so legal.

Mediafire/SVN/FTP stuff : There seems to be indications that there's a chance that Mediafire / Rapidshare etc are going to fall foul of exactly what happened to Megaupload (hopefully not, but you know how these things work - once one goes it sets the standard). Any indications yet that any are definitely safe?

Regarding SVN things, are there any free hosts you could recommend which contain a large amount of storage space?

I know I could google some of this myself, but if you guys are already using something / know more about them, you might be able to give me a far better answer.

the internet must be free, it's the only world where you can retreat, is the only place people with not so fuch freedom in real world come and recreate

for example, i like to play shooters from time to time just to kill something, if they ban me on the net i will go comando with an AK at the white house and bring it to smithereense, just for they banning me for the freedom of legal killing
