Max ac, armour dependant
« on: January 17, 2012, 02:57:36 pm »

This suggestion http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=20727.msg171899#msg171899 gave me a nice idea about Armour Class.

Now there's a cap of 90 AC and let's leave it at that for the blue pyjama.
Leather jacket can have a max ac of 110
Combat Leather jacket 130
Leather Armour 150
Leather Armour mk2 no limit (180? 220?)
(or any other numbers you like, this is just a RFC)
Why? Because using items should always be better then not using items (just like mega power fist should be better then haymaker).

Do you even happen to uderstand the new idea about AC?
Before the wipe it was- Heavier armor = more AC
Now it is heavier armour = worse AC

Armours give you threshold and resistances, but the lower your AC
Unarmored results in no resistance and threshold (unless you have toughness) but you have AC to defend

Items? It is easier to get high tier armours now and protection is a reward for using them. In pyjama you need to constantly run to be protected (you can't attack)

It's even easier not to get armour. Plus you don't have armour => you don't loose armour, in fact you loose nothing when using a jinxed, heavy handed boxer-doger, you don't even use a weapon, and still you can own anyone short of a 10 EN stonewall tank. I hardly find that balanced.

Just wondering if high ac is even popular at the moment.

Honestly hard to say anything until there's sufficient feedback how ac is affecting the gameplay.

There's a bug-cap at 90AC and that's not hight enough. I think that for now that's why there are so little AC builds.

It's good for non-combat builds with low EN. It's mostly for defense, you can't shoot while running.
So I don't think it's a problem that it doesn't cost you caps. It's not like you can do
some harm with AC alone to anyone. To attack you have to stop and you lose all AC.

actually it is probally also meant for you to get nice and close to your opponent aswell. Especially nice for hth where the in your face perk takes over when they stop moving to punch.

That and with some creative thinking im sure you can come up with interresting builds. (with the new pyro perks for example)
However for this to work, the 90 AC cap needs to be removed.

Yes, AC cap is not doing good, you just need kamikaze + livewire to cap it on lvl 3, no use for other perks like dodger and hth evade.

Even when cap will be removed you'll have to sacrifice plenty of perks making you vulnerable in any PvP "area" except for ability to not getting hit

lol?
With armor more AC?
That doesn't make any sense..

With heavy armor you shouldn't able to dodge better than without armor.

It's not about sense,  it's about gameplay.

Someone who spent time/caps/skill points on getting a combat leather should be better in any way then a blue troll that just spawn, doc, fa.

The dt/dr from the armor has no use to a doger, he'll want to avoid a hit, not make the hit do less damage...and he may even have kamikaze.

I regret to say that current AP system isn't balanced for HtH fighters (at least Kammikaze and HtH evade perks should allow AC bonus while standing - while holding only unarmed/melee/no weapons.

My point is: It should be balanced first before we would consider changing it further via armors

(which actually is present atm - when i run in leather armor my AC equals 20 and 30 in bluesuit)

Read your own post.
Armor increasing "ARMOR CLASS", that makes absolutely no sense, right.
