Companions?

I can't really seem to find much info on Companions. Where do you find them? are they named something specific? (Makes it easier for me to find one ^_^), how much can you customize them? Can you level them up and choose their points?
Overall, any info on them.

I just saw this, didn't really answer much of my question except telling me they're in bars. I was asking the playerbase for more specific info :P
