I agree with OP, but I also think the hardcore deterioration is kind of cool.
Perhaps a compromise.
Halve the armor/gun det rate.
Throw in an extra 10% less per luck over 5.
Perhaps enhance repair skill by adding 1% per 5% det left on an item when a repair attempt is made.
So a 75 det item gets a 25% bonus to repairing it.
Maybe also add 3% per Luck over 5.
Also could add materials to enhance repairs.
I doubt it would OP Luck beacuse it is a Stat-point tradeoff.

Det. is pain in the ass, but it might be somewhat bearable on weapons - once you're done with farming and are lvl 24, you won't be shooting even as half as much as you used to while grinding. It still might use a tweak or two, but, giving it a second thought, I wouldn't really complain about weapons.
The armor condition, tough, is brahmin shit-tier atm. It needs to be slowed down or something, as I've already posted.
And aside from that...
Swingline, here, just threw some nifty idea. Partially off topic, but repair, although better than before, feels somewhat... off. It just ain't right. You must farm shit to keep your junk up at useable condition.
So REPAIR is DEPENDENT on FARM and capability of storing used, near broken armors to repair other armors in better condition.
The idea that avv made is actually a nice concept to enchance REPAIR DEPENDANCE on CRAFTING.
You get guaranteed condition % repaired (or at least bonus % to repair skill) by using beforehand crafted patches (leather, metal, composite).
And above all, it all makes sense. It's not unrealistic, obviously, good quality, fresh material suited for repairs is better than nearly pulverized, annihilated piece of metal that you dismantle to fix some metal armor, right? And it actually improves crafting role in repairs. So good for gameplay.
Then again there's the eternal problem of "LOADSA IDEAS, JUST A BUNCH OF DEVS WITH LIMITED TIME", or "ENGINE LIMIT :(", but this shouldn't be the case as it would be just a new item with properties similiar to toolbox. Pretty much a craftable toolbox with quite, yet bit different properties and a reskin.

I think its should be easy to change rate of detoleration(its my opinion). Weapon detoleration little sucks but this helps little because you must have more supplies for leveling yr char, but armor det is a joke, I never going lvling with armor who worth some coin because 3 enc and my armor is gone, of course Im now lvling in RT and taking more hits than in TB, still armors looks like made of paper.

in order to repair my gun i need to craft 2 others...
then why not just to use the 2 brand new ones instead of using them wasting them to fix my gun?
what kind of logic is this???
either remove repair skill completely from the game or make it like it was before wipe maybe?
why should someone spend 150 SP on repair when in order to repair the gun back to 100 or 80% u need to craft 2 of the same gun in order to fix the faulty one....

SRSLY 2-3 encounters and my armor weapon condition goes from 100% to 50% make it 6 encounters and weapon and armor is completely broken...
guys i cant enjoy the game i am afraid to shoot things so i dont break my weapons/armor
this is going 2 hard please do something
