No wonder with the new trading system that alot of traders don't give a shit about what you want to sell. I hardly made 13k and got 10 hides for a damn tent.

Are you saying you paid 13,000 caps for 10 hides?  Hell, I'd sell them for 1000 caps.

There's only so much you can do with one character and sometimes I feel like doing something different.

I don't think anyone is complaining about having more than one character to experience different gameplay. Pre-wipe, I had two characters, one a small gun generic crafter and one a melee combat ape character. They 'lived' at opposite ends of the map and never met or interacted with one another in the slightest. The game was quite different with one or the other, so occasionally I'd pick one or the other depending on mood. I don't think anyone would have an issue with that.

I think the complaint is more when someone has a 'best possible stats for peow-peow-click-click-click shooter ape', then cries because their character doesn't get much money for selling their loot, so creates a 300% barter character whose only purpose is to sell things and return the money to their ape. Then they cry because neither of their characters can craft armour, so they build a specific crafting character whose only purpose is to supply armour to their ape. Then they cry because they can't have 10 different tents at all positions on the map, so creates another 10 characters to exist only momentarily to create extra tents for their ape, and so on and so on until there are enough 'support alts' to avoid any challenge or "tough decision making" in the stats/RPG elements of the gameplay, effectively creating a multi-login equivalent of having 10 for every special and 300% in all the stats instead of communicating with other players. Of course this means that anyone else wishing to 'compete' in PVP combat has to do the same.

I suppose it's a little like crying over a game of chess because your opponent won't allow you to move all of your pieces like a combination between a Queen and a Knight.

Heh...no silly...what I meant was that it took my alot to make that kind of money and then get some hides for a tent.

well every alt is another character to level, thus making you play the game longer.  I.e. alts make the game last longer.  I like being self-sufficient so pre-wipe I had a SMG crafter (semi-pve fighter), SMG PvP, Armor crafter, BG crafter, BG PvP & just for the hell of it I made a barter alt.  Barter alt wasn't really needed and I figured that out pretty quick, but I leveled her up to 21 anyway just for something to do.

Even though you're completely right you lack insight of what the life of ape is like. Apes want to do things fast and effectively, they don't like wander around and waste time. Communicating with people is slow because people are untrustworthy, slow or afk. Sometimes the ape's self-respect denies him to ask help all the time. Self-sufficiency is gold. So he makes alts because they are instantly available whenever the ape needs them. Alts are trustworthy and as fast as the ape himself.
In last wipe I played with single char for about 3 months before I got tired of asking help from my pals who never needed my help in similar matters. So I made lockpicker, crafter and whatever support alts were needed and everyone had better time I bet. Stopping whatever you're doing to go help someone somewhere because they don't have the right alt is pretty tiresome in the end and you start to expect others to be as self-sufficient as you are.

Newest must-have alt is definitely sciencer. I've started to collect hundreds of items to be scienced by this future sciencer. It's simply not worth to science items with low science because that ends up me having less mats.

I believe most of those alts were to abuse a quest in Junktown. I removed the guy yesterday and the quest is fixed today.

This season will in fact reduce the advantage having "slave" alts will give you. Even if it still requires a few amendments.

Well... Amen to Luther's post. I usually play with one char. Used to have two or three chars sometimes, not as alt-builds, more like other chars, like Luther mentioned. And I find creating a char for better science, better trading etc. a simple abuse.

Oh and the whole thing with helping each other out, since some players are better at crafting and some players are better at something else - well... just epic. I think that's what the game should be all about - also the gangs would make more sense. I'm sure that lot of people remember Martin Blue (that was some time ago hope i remembered the nick correctly) he was out there, mostly in NCR, offering help with crafting armours and it was damn fun. I mean - wouldn't you expect towns to have all theese crafters and traders? Well - nah, since you can just create an alt to make an armour yourself. It kills the idea of MMO if you ask me.

In other words - All people using alts for their own profit should concider reanimating Fallout Tactics or creating Tactics - like server. You wouldn't have to bother with relogging, duals etc.

I highly agree to this whole post. In fact, I'm too lazy to creat an alt and level it up to a certain level to get all my skills needed to get proffesions etc.
People have somehow become braver and more trusty (some however still have 13756183 amount of alts to have a slave leader, merc leader, disassembler, thief, PvP ape 1, PVP ape 2, fail char, 30 crafters and still exploit semi-broken game mechanics because it's somehow easier for them). People have recently beggining to ask people with higher charisma to buy them something and they will give you the money back (sometimes they even give you an extra). People have started actual trade of materials instead of high end products. Caps are scarce and somehow rarely are used in trades. This is the wasteland I want to see! If anything, using alternate characters to support one faction/character should be bannable.

I still can be reached over e-mail if you somehow need anything from me. Don't see a reason why you would, but if you do, e-mail remains the safest bet, as I do not visit this forum reliably anymore.
