New wipe, new alts.
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:18:40 pm »

I don't really know what's the point of this topic, but this is getting ridiculous in my oppinion. The developers wanted to eliminate alts, the players thought the other.

God, I've forgot how it is to be a FOnline player. :)

Actually, the current system is everything but "lessalt-friendly". No surprises alting is already going on.

I don't see anything ridiculous or very surprising. How few level one alts will have any impact on you ? I don't see a reason to be concerned , maybe a little bit because when i see such pictures and scenes there is one word that pops into my mind - abuse. What kind of .... well maybe you had to pay more attention on what were they doing and you could even report it.

level one alts
It's a matter of time when they get level 18 as minimum and it even seems there is no character switch timeout causing what already happen'd about 2 wipes earlier - People position their alts with dual logging on the place where is about to be a huge fight, go to their main character, fight with that, character dies, quick relog to alt number 1, alt 1 fights and dies, quick relog to alt number 2. etc. etc. It's not as harmless as it may seem.

It's called roleplay for a reason. You are supposed to have a role in the world, and not be everything.

If there's a loophole that can be abused, it will be.

What can you do, this game is full of PvP hello kittens, who will exploit all lame tricks as long
as it makes the game a tiny tiny bit easier for them.

Not everyone can play in a truly harsh way. Just leave them alone.

No, you are supposed to have fun. There is no rule that says you should roleplay.

Also MMOs in general are not roleplaying games. They are built around addictive compulsory
farming, hoarding and hack&slash combat. Basically they are made to make money.

FOnline is a noble exception here in many, many ways, because it's not commercial and it's
Fallout, but it doesn't mean it's made specifically for roleplay.

Just look at all these people who were waiting in starting blocks to register an account (including
myself). I don't think anyone waited there to be the first person on server roleplaying a character.

Ah well, it's a unthought, but logical development. Getting money with selling crap is harder now, but box lifting always brings the same money and this reasonable fast. The result of course are box lifting alts. We'll see what we can do.

Second brilliant post ive read from you... youre starting to grow on me. Agree fully on that too, its ridiculous the way most people think of doing 100 alts to do just about everything (which equals 100 times the grinding) instead of banding with other people already commited to a job and learning to fit in a role.

And adressing a post above. Grinding-hoarding is addictive like hell, but I would`nt nor most others would categorize it as fun, its simply addictive. I find questing, exploring, brawling (small encounter fighting to large scale TC) to be actually fun, also the whole raid-raidboss thing would also be fun (for a while) but I doubt devs got any plans to add it. ATM people just grind to have a softer cushion for the moment they die and have to visit their stash/tent for more weapons, and the reasoning behind the wasteland in this game is to be a hostile place where death has an ultimate penalty... not a simple setback as hoarders make it to be

I think it's much better now. It's strange to see how everyone is a millionare in a wasteland..

Actually alt char is something that keeps some people playing, you will find alts, bots and dualboxes in every mmo no matter if this is leagal or illegal.

Lets face it, alt/fastrelog/dualbox restrictions will "harm" only players who can't handle the gameplay, tryully they are not good enough on playing and they will also get caught by GM while breaking the rules... but canny people can handle game easly and they will find a way to make it even easyer and they won't get caught.

I would say if you see it, ignore it... maybe its not the best solution but if it make FOnline little easyer for more people and then more populated (popular) then I would say its worth it, eventually theyll drop alts and stick to one char or just teamup with the others.

I love having alts.  If FOnline made it illegal to have an alt I would probably quit.  There's only so much you can do with one character and sometimes I feel like doing something different.  Alt'ing isn't a problem.  Fast/dual relogging is.

No wonder with the new trading system that alot of traders don't give a shit about what you want to sell. I hardly made 13k and got 10 hides for a damn tent. Not to talk about mining. I've trying to mine for some minerals and ore to make some alloys but unfortunately all the mines are "out of resources" . But I belive we need some time until it sync's in. I really like the idea with looting NPC armors. I'm wondering if it works with BoS and Enclowns.

Getting money with selling crap is harder now

I had no idea that a perfect Metal Armor and Helmet is crap so is a Combat Armor. Or maybe some traders are to stupid to see the value in those. I have to travel accross the map to VC and trade with the only trader that actually gives me something in return.

True, for some more for others less but its always roleplay and I don't need to make avatar of myself in game, coz sometimes I feel more to play as a brawler and other time sneaky sniper or harmless Doc suits me better. And even if alt makes your game easyer, so what? its still your time that you spend on playing instead of doing something else.

Fast/dual relogging is.
Personally I see it as a problem only that it might be used for griefing, because no matter how hard you would try, you can't make game equal to everyone.

I actually like the tradeing system(if it works this way, didn't checked it yet), why a man from grocery store or for example Bob whos selling iguana bits would buy a combat armor? its aint his specialty, so only weaponsmith/armorer should appreciate your effort for bringing such treasure :)
