Pip-Boy game for crafters.
« on: February 17, 2010, 09:05:39 pm »

As I was waiting 5 minutes for the timeout, I found myself doing all kinds of stuff and forgetting about the timeout and then alt+tabbing back after 20 minutes.
So as a way of keeping the player IN the game, how about a button in Pip-Boy which would start a black and white (or green and greener) game of snake, or tetris or something simple like that?

A win-win would be if it showed the cooldown timers right next to it while playing.

You know what sounds better? A minigame to actually craft items. You win, you successfully craft an item.
Pros:
- realism, you actually do something in order to make an item and it takes time
- no cooldowns, work doesnt work this way

Cons:
- you can loose
- no crafting of X items in a row

before all the crafters will tell me im stupid, just consider it a joke

You are a 10 INT character with 250% Science skill and an electronical gadget on your hand. You are bored.
The very first computer game came to life under such conditions.

@Craft minigame:
That's be fun, yet massively annoying when you lose :p

I have better idea for cooldown waiting.
You can have "Alarm Clock" at pip-boy, so you don't need to download and use custom programms.
You simply writing there in how many minutes pip-boy start "bip-bip". Also message will appear, so window will flush, if you're alt+tab'bed. And you can do whatever you want.

Edit:
before all the crafters will tell me im stupid, just consider it a joke

Yea, you are!

Wouldn't it be easier if there was a "play a sound when completed" button next to every cd in a pipboy? It could look like this:

only if it play a different sound on each cooldown, fa could have a cloth ripping sound, doctor could have a squelching sound, gathering could have a wood sawing sound, crafting could have a hammer on anvil sound, and so on and so forth.

I don't think it's neceserry - you decide which cooldown you want to be informed about, so when you hear a sound, it means that you totally need to alt-tab  ;).

Multiple sounds seems unnecessary. Just one sound would be enough to remind you to check.

You're supposed to play fonline while waiting for crafting cooldowns. The crafting cooldowns aren't arranged very smartly gameplay-wise.
