For now dogs are kind of useless except maybe RP purposes.
I agree, really mostly anything without a ranged attack is pretty worthless... I guess if your Outdoorsman completely sucks then a dog would help... most people throw some points into outs though, especially if it's a build designed for hunting or random PvP... high outs is awesome if you play turn-based
