So, how exactly do mercs work?
« on: October 19, 2011, 07:08:16 am »

I'm going to purchase a faction base soon and was wondering how the mercenaries worked regarding how many you can have. Say I was to say purchase five mercenaries and bring them to my base one by one, purchasing them one by one... Is that possible? Or would I need say 6 charisma to be able to have them active at my base? Just overall how does it work?

If you have mercs/followers to you, they will count towards you limit no matter where they are.
The amount you can have is your Charisma - 1, /2 then rounded down
Magnetic Personallity adds one slot.

Also you CAN use Mentats/Beer to get a merc, but when your Charisma lowers below what you needed, they will no longer follow you. (So if you leave them in a tent or base, they will stay there but can't be moved till you raise your Charisma again.)

So if I buy a merc one by one I can just leave them at my faction base and have them stop following me so they don't count towards my limit? (as in they guard my tent 24/7) but they stay and guard my faction base?

Or am I better off getting an alt to buy/bring my guards to my faction base?

Doesn't matter if they're following you or not, they will count towards the limit.
And it's up to you if you wish to use an alt.

the max amount of mercs one can have is 5

9 CH + magnetic personality, gives you 5 slots.

with 9 ch, you take up one.. so its 8 left, mercs take up two so you can have 4 slots open for mercs. If you get magnetic it adds another slot soooo now you have 5 slots for mercs. :) + yourself.

You only need the 9CH and magnetic personality when you're buying the mercs, and as said above you can get it with mentats and beer from 6CH and magnetic personality. When the effects are gone you can still move the mercs around, travel with them on worldmap etc, because after you've bought them they take one CH slot each merc, not 2 as it takes when buying. You dont need to constantly eat the mentioned drugs after buying mercs to be able to play with them.

In conclusion: whoever said you cannot move/lead 5 mercs around anymore with 6CH and magnetic personality when the effects of mentats and beer are gone is wrong.
