The Ability to Trade What is In Your Hand
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:19:18 pm »

The title says it all, I think it would allow for safer trading. Any Disagreements?

Of course! Don't need to create another topic about it!

+1 if possible, as usual Ben agrees too but I don't know if he counts for anything  ;D

When you hear people talking about the great leader of the Armeggedon Arms Co., there talking about me. On the flip side when you hear them laughing about the Plague who stood next to guard and died or something else like that, that would be my brother Ben.

This really should be ingame. It's very annoing to take valuable items from hands and then trade them to shopkeepers..
At that time thieves takes them and leave you nothing :)

I have better solution - I suggest to... allow steal from hand slots!

Pros:
You don't need to carry stuff in your hand slots anymore, because thieves will steal anyway. Haha!

Cons (Pros for thieves):
"wtf noob trolls bluesuiters stealing my items, I can't trade with Sha Enin!"
"I can't stand afk in NCR with my avenger minigun!"
"thieves are stealing my dynamite before I activate it!!1"
"noob bluesuiter stole my gun while I was aiming in his friend-thief and I had to punch them!"

Edit:

This is dumb.
This is fun. Also I don't see anything bad in stealing something from someone's hands, simply steal skill need more balancing like sneak skill and make more factors affecting success, may be when you're near trader, a guard (if he is present there) should take care about your stuff better and give a penalty to all thieves attempting to steal from you or something like that.

And then main thing! It can be used in PvP! Just imagine, a battle, guys are shooting each other, bad polish words in mumble, people are dying, you're walking from corner of building and there! A bluesuiter with stupid name stealing your gauss pistol and then running away laughing! Ahaha! Stealing skill usable in PvP!

The perk illustration for Pickpocket indicates that hand-stealing is Canon.

Perhaps make it so items on trading table are non-stealable.

The main problem is there is currently no defense from stealing except to keep running. While there are several perks to make you a better thief.  How about a perception based perk that makes you able to catch a thief, and if you're in a guarded zone the guards start attacking that person? Heck, for that matter I'd make perception all by itself make it harder to successfully pick someone's pocket.

in Fallout 1&2 steal was a good way to make money from NPCs and it was good for some "no kill" quests

if we can make a dialog with a steal check to gain better guns and melle skills* then we can use steal to power up out builds

I agree with you LagMaster there should be some thief quest that include stealing some items or the opposite putting something in a guarded place without getting noticed.
I also like the idea of hand stealing however it should make the thief unprotected and have less skill needed for the action but more strength it would be quite useful in PvP (should be usable in tb and rt too) then you meet rocket guy he shot and miss you, you run next to him use steal and take his weapon then run away load it and kill him with his own:)

yeah, but in guarded towns make the hand steal not availeble, in unguarded towns is ok(if he steals your main weapon, pull out a secondary and shoot him, but in guarded you can't shoot who you whant)

and about suggeston, i agree is a good ideea to trade what you whant

also an auto cap filler will be awesome

Technically cant be done. Engine limitations, you know... but we could use a "sell" option in dialogue, i tell "intrested in this" or something like it to a trader, the trader says "Yes"/"No", if no nothing happens if yes it asks you to tell him a price, using "Say" function, and using a mix of base value, break count, condition, barter and so on he agrees or disagrees on price. You can then try another one or tell him that this item is too valuable for him, or stuff like that, and closes dialog.
