How to join Brotherhood and how to rise karma?

I dont know how long it'll take before you become neutral, i know it took a while for my brother when he joined the enclave but he did leave after he got his armorer maxed.

(if not then i guess i can only drink a beer and then sell something to Broken Hill's merchants)
