CH and Sex appeal work in fight
« on: September 12, 2011, 06:51:13 pm »

Everyone knows that CH is useless in fight until you are bringing few mercs with you.
Why not make it take bigger influence in fight...
Something like
"Your character is affected by xxx`s builty, BaseToHit is reduced by CH*X
Smae with sex-appeal so taking different sex will affect fight in unpredictable way (men haveing less chance to hit S.A. woman b/c they wanna her :P

added: low CH should make enemy shoot you faster)

I'd thought similar myself, but I couldn't get it to sound right in my mind - i.e. it seems "too forced".

Perhaps something more related to "sequence" or "first shot" or something. A character with high charisma should seem friendly, on your side, harmless etc - regardless of whether they are actually friendly, you'd be tricked into believing it. One with low charisma should seem "obviously evil" from the moment you spot them. In terms of game mechanics, I suppose you'd be able to shoot a low CH character immediately, whereas a higher CH would be "protected" for a few seconds (or turns?), or until they shoot you first. Perhaps it would affect the chance to hit, as you suggested, by means of being uncertain about what you were doing?

CH10 should be the most awesome, friendly, seems like the nicest person in the world, you'd never want to shoot them - you'd want to make friends. A charismatic bad guy could be stood next to two dead traders, with a gun pointing at them, and persuade you that "it was like that when they got there", and you'd believe it. CH1 should be the hated local rapist, paedophile or child killer - to be killed on sight, and assumed guilty of all possible crimes. Anything in between that is on a scale between the two.

Still seems a bit "forced" though. A slightly less forced option may be the ability to get extra combat training / extra perks from specialist NPCs, who would only teach the better skills to "nicer" characters. Something's available to everyone, but the higher the CH, the higher the bonus i.e. they like you more, so spend much more time training you. That might actually make it useful, without having too great an overhaul of the existing system.

not really... The counts can be different and not linear

Let it as it is, CH must have nothing to do with combat.
But maybe Sex Appeal can work giving a little more damage, like 5% against the oposite sex.
But then people will chose the sex for combat issues, not for look good.

So my conclusion is no to both things

argument invalid, there are guys with female chars everiwhere, so if you chose boy/girl it will not matter that high

the whole sex appeal perk implies all men are physically attracted to women and vise versa.

also, because you can influence people, they cant aim at you as well? if you are socially awkward, you can be shot at faster? because that makes sense.

The more charismatic target is the less you wanna hurt it or the less you expect it to shoot. It can work both ways.

It`s just nice.
IMHO sex IS to affect gameplay and CH as roleplay parameter too. I.e. combat.
Of couse it will make calculating a bit more difficult making powerbuilds a bit harder to generate.

Man, its the most stupid idea ever!

Just read that sentence loud: "I have less chances to hit somebody, because hes charismatic person".

Of course u can say, that someone doesnt look like potential treat, so make CH bonus to sequence, but not to hit tables...

Wipe needed! More and more stupid ideas...

I`m not interested is sequence at all... It`s just a nothing-dealing number in RT.

I guess with the proposed merc cap the next wipe will bring (whatever exactly it may look like) high charisma characters will perhaps have a bit more trouble in the waste.

However, I think that if you want to get by with a high charisma character then the best thing to do is be charismatic. I don't think that the limit of player followers will change (and they are better and more fun than mercs anyway) so if you want to play as a leader you will just need to be social and find actual people who are willing to join you and watch your back.

And that is exactly what I plan to do ;)

C'mon! Let's leave the idea of charisma having influence on combat and focus it upon what it should be focused
- Quests
- Barter prizes
- Good looks (when 3d models will finally be implemented)
- Other non-cobat mechanics

Agreed.
We need more quests, and those quests cannot be "run from NPC X to NPC Y". We might have some PvP quests, like "kill X number of persons in town K to obtain a reward".

quests are boring in MMoRPG.
They are to provide some basic stuff to player - first gun, first armor and so on.
After completing all quest there is nothing to do to quester...

also if you put a special reward to quest you can`t find another way it will just bring new alt-army.

added1: 5 10 5 5 5 5 5 char should be similar to 5 5 5 10 5 5 5 char after becoming max lvl in terms of usefullness

added2: I know both builds are crappy....
