yes it exists, they still disappear when die in certain places. even with full loyality and if you told them to go to tent

180% is the recommended max from what I heard, though 100-125% isn't bad in my experience.

It does have a noticeable effect, but there's also weird variables like A) your reputation, B) some vendors generally charge more for items that are less elsewhere, and C) I could be wrong, but on rare occasions I think certain items stop having a trade-in value due to oversupply.

But how do you level him, the weapon stats are pretty bad. Do you really get som much XP from lockpicking your own trunk?

I don't need to make him level 24. All I need is to do some levels to get some decent lockpick skill. And for leveling I can go in the desert find some encounter with aliens vs centaurs wait till one of them is low hp then burst with an SMG or ask a friend to help me level him up a few levels. Right now I'm level 4 with him almost 5 still need 700 xp or so and he's got 152 lockpick. Found a footlocker in an encounter with Super Mutants sorouned by beartraps. Hope I get a BP out of it if I manage to open it. I'm at the 9th attempt

I don't think all have visible flags. Like not all of them can be opened despite your skill.

All containers are items.
Items are visible outside the FoV if they have ITEM_ALWAYS_VIEW flag set.
