Author Topic: Rework some dialogue behavior with NPCs on pressing ESC or whatever  (Read 1055 times)

May be it should be posted in "Bugs", I don't know.

Now, and may be in some quests in the future if you won't fix it, combat can be avoided by simply escaping from dialogue, for example Rail line gang, when talk to Haratus or whatever his name, you can try to persuade him to let you join his faction, then he'll laugh at you and there will be a dialogue option [Combat], but.. you can simply press ESC and walk away and start talk with him from begining like if you never started dialogue with him before.
1) So, some NPCs should become angry if you're escaping from dialogue with them, if there's possibility of failing.
2) Instead of showing his taunt in dialogue option when you fail with him, let make him hostile instantly and close dialogue and let him say it over his head, and in the future make all hostile or some other bad actions without possibility to escape.

Good idea, this reminded me of the "No Mr. Bishop I swear i did not have sex with your daughter...and your wife...oh noes Esc to the rescue. Or was it 0?

It won't change anything since you can just close the client aswell.

It won't change anything since you can just close the client aswell.
Not in case #2: where instead of saying [Combat], he'll instantly become very angry and will have a desire to hurt you and make your HP get below -20 to make you respawn.
I mean, now:
1) You're telling that you want to join thier gang;
2) You're failing CH and/or speech and/or IN check (if there's a check at all);
3) Oh noes! He says that he's going to kill you! And there's a button which will engage a combat!
4) You're pressing escape, and like you never talked to him.

My suggestion:
1) You're telling that you want to join thier gang;
2) You're failing CH and/or speech and/or IN check (if there's a check at all);
3) Dialogue closes, Haratus or whatever his name says what he's thinking about you in-game over his head and attacks you.
If you'll close your client, you'll die in "(off)", or not, if you're GM, dev or Sha Enin, because you're immortal.
If you'll press ESC, nothing will happen, because dialogue is already closed and you'll die, if you won't run away or kill them all.

So, you won't tell something bad so he won't be angry on you, or you'll tell and he'll be angry on you and nothing will help you, so you'll have to avoid such options if you're not sure about your imba-useful-must-have speech skill (again, if there's a roll of that skill at all).
Also if your quests have static number of speech skill, of couse that's silly, you need to make a roll of speech +your speech skill, so sometimes you'll be succeed with low skill, (may be some quests impossible, where you need 100%+ skill), and sometimes fail with high skill.
Like 1d100 roll +speech skill.
So if some option has DC of 80 of speech skill and you have 50% speech skill you'll have 51-150 roll and will have 70% of success, also rolling from 1-5 will be automatically fail. And this could be used in many dialogues, may be even with traders, give them some dialogue as greeting and may be you can talk to him and get some discount or more items in store that only succeed in speech characters can see or something, but then again, it's all alts, alts, alts, so barter alts will have also speech tagged. Anyway there must be a way where speech skill can be used in places where your character need to fight, so pure speech alts won't be used.

So in any situation, where there's a roll/check in dialogue option, if you fail and something bad should happen after that, it should happen instantly without additional dialogue options like:
1. [You will die now, but there's an ESC button!]
2. [GMs will ban you if you'll click this option but you can press ESC to avoid it]
3. [Your character will permadie now, but ESC button will save you]
4. [This angry NPC is going to burst you with gauss minigun, but you can use magic ESC button]
Instead of that, an action will be used instantly after fail and all those taunts can be said by NPC as overhead text, of couse players usually won't read it because they will run or shoot in that NPC or shout in panic and will have no time to read it, but anyway it's better than:

You encounter: Enclave patrol.

"We're enclave patrol and now you'll die!"

1. Oh noes!
2. Ahhh!
3. AAAAAAAAAAA!
4. [Press ESC button!]

Choose option 4.

"We're enclave patrol and now you'll die!"

1. Oh noes!
2. Ahhh!
3. AAAAAAAAAAA!
4. [Press ESC button!]

Choose option 4.

"We're enclave patrol and now you'll die!"

1. Oh noes!
2. Ahhh!
3. AAAAAAAAAAA!
4. [Press ESC button!]

Choose option 4.

"We're enclave patrol and now you'll die!"

1. Oh noes!
2. Ahhh!
3. AAAAAAAAAAA!
4. [Press ESC button!]

Choose option 4.

"We're enclave patrol and now you'll die!"

1. Oh noes!
2. Ahhh!
3. AAAAAAAAAAA!
4. [Press ESC button!]

Choose option 4.

Instead of that it should be like that:

"We're enclave patrol and now you'll die!"
*You really die*
