Some *slight* issues with the AI
« on: July 12, 2011, 11:35:19 pm »

I'm not entirely sure if these are bugs or WAD so that's why I'm posting this here.

In two encounters the AI has behaved rather oddly.

1. Me and a friend spawn right next to a merchant and hos bodyguards. They instantly start shouting PUT YOUR GUNS DOWN!!!!11!!11! and about 1 second later (I didn't have time to react and holster my weapon) they shoot to kill. Really now?

After we killed them a group of Followers of the Apocalypse that has been standing right next to us minding their own busines moves in to ninjaloot our loot. As retarded as this is I doubt it's a bug, but what really confused me is when I open up the merchants inventory to see if it's worth killing these silly followers for it I see he has NOTHING on him. So I close the window and they say "Leave this stuff!" and INSTANTLY starts shooting at me. wtf?

2. I bought a dog to help me carry stuff from a mine. Out wandering we encounter a hub patrol vs some rats and pigrats. I had set the dog to only attack if attacked first. The dog, me and the patrol dispatches the rats quickly but when all the rats are dead they chase my dog and then kill him after he reaches me and stops. After slaying my dog they walk back as if nothing had happened. How could they aggro on my dog and not me? How did they aggro on my dog in the first place? He wasn't agroed at the hub patrol and he hadn't bitten any of them :S.

PS: The only faction I have negative reputation with is the Slavers

Dog must have been have bad reputation with the Hub citizens. Because that's where you bought it? In Hub, right?

1st sounds normal gameplay.
If you think about it, most guys shoot you on sight in the wasteland. The merchants gave you a warning but you weren't too fast so they thought you're a robber. Better play safe they thought.
Then the FoA ninjalooting and attacking. Ninjalooters exist. When you looted one of the merchants and he had nothing, the follower perhaps attacked you because he didn't know there wasn't anything to loot. Many people kill others for looting stuff they think is theirs.

2nd sounds like a bug.

Based on evidence collected from various sources by trustworthy attendees it is undisputed veritability that the land ravaged by atomic warfare which caused extreme change of the ecosystem and environmental hazards can be considered unpleasant, rugged and unforgiving.

Followers can aggro by proximity same as you can, sometimes in tb the guards wont say dont come closer.

Yep I bought it in the hub, and that sure sounds like a lulworthy explanation xD

Sounds like you argue by logic/realism instead of gameplay mechanics.

I forgot to mention that I did holster my weapon (albeit too late) and tried to run away. But the fuckers CHASED me and tried to kill me. Sure doesn't sound like self-defence to me. But the really odd one is the FoA behaving like that, they are a secular humanist faction dedicated to help others and bring peace to the wasteland.

Gameplay-mechanic wise I think it sounds like a bug that they think I stole "their" loot because I looked at a empty inventory. Why? Because if you look at an inventory with loot that an AI is about to loot but don't take anything they don't care!

If that is true then it sounds like a good explanation for #2.

If so, if I don't want to piss a faction off I should run from all encounters with them if I have a melee follower?
