Dog tag from dead player
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:13:55 pm »

Very simple. Every player would drop dog tag to inventory, if he would be killed. This could be kind of trophy for other players, personal collection.

I disagree with attitude that this would only encourage PKilling of innocent bluesuits. But on other way, only lvl 21 char. (= in 99 percent finished powerbuild) could drop this dog tag.

oh this is a wasteland and not every one is in an army or faction, maybe if you kill certain factions like ncr army, ncr rangers, unity patrol, enclave, etc. but every player? i dont think that would work to good.

So sooner or later everyone will have 209015815109515129581295 dogtags laying around his base as "trophies" which just clusterfuck the servermemory and do nothing else.

Well, I wonder if players would collect only those meaningful ones, or really would like to gather as much as possible:)

In any case, it's ultimately simple feature, we could even try it at some point.

I could imagine them being something really of a trophy for some important kill during event fights (or the faction scenarios for example). This way, they don't lose a meaning as "trophies" like they would do if they'd be dropped after each kill. Things lose their meanings if their number is too high.

Yeah, would be better that way.

Well that would be good.

I dont see reason why event scenarios kills should be more valuable than fights during TC or in New Reno. Dont make half solutions only.

Lvl 21 requirement (powerbuild only) is good enough, dogtags from same players should be stackable, of course.

Look at current situation of game, there is not many reasons to play it (PvP player perspective) after one year without wipe. Collecting dogtags from enemy players should be one reason.

Thus dogtags becoming another useless junk item you throw in the most backward corner of your base. As written above, things being mass "produced" lose their meaning of the inital background.

Which scenario sounds better to your ears?

a) Faction "lolpwnz0r gang xD 35029ß0" organizes some hunt together. On their way, they meet bluesuit #258205ß1209125810295613296ß13´6136. They kill said bluesuit. member 290259 picks the dogtag of the bluesuit up, for the lulz, later throws it in the bases garbage container. All members agree to a "yay for some useless piece of shit."

b) Faction XY fight against Faction ABC. They hold the bridge until near the end, when Faction XY makes their breakthrough. Only one player from faction ABC is remaining. Suddenly, through some good tactics, he manages to overwhelm the other faction. He earns a dogtag for this brave fight, with a more thorough and precise description, a thing  you rarely get in the wasteland.

It's your choice.

I think I would prefer ears to dogtags if this was implemented. As has been said, we are not all in the military and dog tags are mainly used to identify your own sides casualties after the smoke clears and not by the enemy.

Ears however are more commonly kept as trophies by killers, especially during wartime and among man-hunters.

Surf, i did not realized that you have problem with understanding of written text. I described possibility, that only lvl 21 player would drop dog tag. LvL 21 char is in most cases power build. Minority of Fonline players, who dont play TC or Hinkley, they dont have leveled up their char to max level, because they dont have reason to play after they reach this level. So this dog tag would affect only PvP players who play TC or Hinkley.

I take my hat off to you, Surf, because you predict what exactly will players do. ;)

Of course they will put captured dog tag on the ground in their bases, because PvP players put every stuff on the ground of their PvP bases, because it is most well arranged and less time consuming way how to organize stuff.

I am not sure like you, but i think that players or gangs could collect dog tags of all enemy players alts, or every player in enemy gang, maybe they could trade any enemy dog tags with other players /= more pvp interaction. I dont think, that player would kill themselfs to get free their own dog tag. I imagine, that dog tag of my char in enemy possesion is shame for me..

Lets try this, if it would be succesful, there is a plenty possibilities how to expand this idea.

I.e.: 5 dogtags from one player = possibility to track players to their bases (tents) ..., or you can spend it in the NPC bounty hunters...

That'd be just bad design, the more you kill one guy, the less significant it should be. Especialy when done in short time.
You know, games are not played just by gentlemen who would stop themselfs every time they are pushing any limit, but by the all sort of intrawebz, one cannot even name for various reasons.

Just saying, realisticly this feature wouldn't allow more than "boosting your e-peen".
Also you would hardly be rewarded in anything valuable as you could just go for - let's kill each other to collect jackpot!

I would prefer if it was dropped only at particular occasion (event etc). Or maybe it would appear only on >CA armors (which make sense, it's the only true soldier outfit, wich would explain the dogtag).

Ah, dogtags thread! :)

oh this is a wasteland and not every one is in an army or faction, maybe if you kill certain factions like ncr army, ncr rangers, unity patrol, enclave, etc. but every player? i dont think that would work to good.

Some time ago dogtag item was made to have low chance to show up in critter encounters, and it uses solution very close to this (only real difference is, that it doesn't show up for every critter).

Anyway, dogtags can be "blank", "military", or "custom-made". Only second one is used currently (read: after update), as i made it thinking specifically about NPCs and NCR Army/Anclafff, leaving space for future changes. ...and if/when it will be available for players, i'd like to have it still sticked to NPC factions (like giving it to player who worked for at least 1 rank higher than default, right after joining), without making it involved with domination or so. There is enough stuff for players interested in PvP, no need to put yet another one. Of course, dogtags won't make any player join NPC faction, but will add some small detail to it - it is just a crap-item after all.

(...) 5 dogtags from one player (...)

More i see this as item given *once* by NPC, and if you loose it, you can get a copy after finishing some silly task (example: go to storage room of NPC faction you belongs to -- bring blank dogtag to npc -- wait 2 minutes -- get a new, shining copy).

LvL 21 char is in most cases power build.
