FOnline Newbie woes...
« on: June 23, 2011, 02:32:53 pm »

Hey people, I'm new to FOnline!

I can understand the ruthless unforgiving MMO aspect, after all, this is fallout, but there are some things I cannot understand the reasoning behind.

1) Speech/Barter timers, seriously, why is this needed? Why do I need to "race" the already clumsy fallout barter interface so I can make a simple trade?
2) On the subject of trade, the weapon/armor/ammo etc' filters are nice, but it would be really cool if a text filter was in, and an option to sort by deteroiration %, I'm sure no one wants to buy a 80% det. weapon.
3) Some sort of "party" mechanic, I could not find information about such in the wiki, so I suppose there is none. Guys, this is an mmo, there should be a way to group up with people.
4) I have not gotten my tent yet, is there a particular place to hunt for brahmin, or it's all random? Or is there a particular trader to buy some from?

Thanks in advance.

5) Just got knocked down and mauled into the -15HP range, then instead of finishing me off, the AI guys just leave...and what am I supposed to do? The HP regen is really really slow (1 hp per 2 minutes? that's half an hour to wait!) There's no way to speed things up or suicide or something?

The reasoning behind the timer in trade is so that people don't just sit there all day with account in trade with a NPC. Only one person can trade at a time, and If more then one person could trade at a time, I think that trading could have the possibility of being a lot more bugged. I'm not sure how the ins and outs of the Fallout 2 engine work, but it sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

1) you can scroll much faster using shift+mousewheel.

3)There IS possibility of grouping, hold click someone and choose the right icon.

5) you can type "~cuttheveins", it will kill you so you can respawn.

I suggest you take a look at this thread if its allright, as most of your questions were answered there...

1. answered
2.I buy 80% or more det often, then i repair the item. Simple and easy to do although a 0% det filter would be nice
3.There is a party mechanic hold down your mouse over a person and hover over the icon with people in it, one is to join one is to leave parties.
4.You can ask other players, check most traders (use the wiki as some traders will buy brahmin skins for the full 100, those are the ones most likely to have them
5. Answered

1-2) Just give the trader 1 caps, it will reset the trade timer. Also it can be useful
to buy det. weapons. They are alot cheaper then new weapons, and with some
repair skill you can fix them.

3) You can create groups as said above, right click a player and left-click the proper symbol to follow him.
But keep in mind, only people with charisma can lead a group, charisma 1 chars cannot lead.

4) Best way to get some hides is probably to buy/trade/beg some from more experienced players,
for them its a work of minutes to get em. If you feel tough enough, just visit some unguarded towns
(redding, modoc and so on) and kill the brahmins in the town pens. Some citizens might attack you,
but they are mostly unarmed food.

There are other places to get brahmin hides, and don't require going into ungaurded areas.  Try around NCR it takes a bit longer but it's close enough to make it somewhat less of an issue.  Also get your tent and sadly in the current system be sure to always put your stuff there and never carry anything with you, you're not willing to lose.  Kinda makes getting better stuff less meaningful but it's how this 'game' works atm.

1 this is an multiplayer game, so the timers are there so every has his turn into barter with traders
2 post it in sugestions next time
3 the tagging sistem that is the best in my opinion, to bad it depends on carisma
4 near modoc are a lot of brahmins, but if you realy know where is the place use this
5 ~cuttheveins, also use modify next time

I do. Some weapons are harder to get at vendors (for example P90 or sniper rifle) and when I see it (even broken) I just buy it and repair.

The point is that it would still be helpful to be able to organize the list by deterioration, being a noob or not.

Features 3 and 4 are in the game, though areas like Modoc have a lot more brahmin than a place like NCR. And Feature 1 is so some troll can't keep the merchant busy, though it would be nice if the time limit was disabled in maps like New Reno, where there is no militia or guards.
