how exactly does it work, i read the wiki and i know that i need 10 brahmin hide, and i can store stuff in it, but how does it work? is it permanently in that spot, and then whenever i go there its my tent? or can i pack it up and take it elsewhere?

If you have someone there when you setup your tent that and that individual has a tent in another location. It shares the tent with them, but do they loss their tent since:

If you have an old tent, it will be destroyed: You can only create one tent per character.

If you want to share tent with someone, you need to tag him as a leader before making a tent by him. Your tent will stay, and you will be seeing his tent on a worldmap.
If you don't want to see someone's tent, don't tag him as a leader. If he make a tent succesfully, he will "dissappear". Your tent stays in that case either.
