I think you're misremembering that

Avenger was averaging higher than the LSW, as it should, even in that test.

I've just finished testing them both vs Bob who had BA stats, set to not deteriorate. To quote the log:

To save you having to add them up - Avenger total of 20 shots 1601 (Average of 80) LSW total 1400 (Average of 70)

Meaning the avenger is doing an average of 15% more damage, even in this test. I would actually expect the avenger to pull even further ahead as the sample increased

View the topic (the next 2 or 3 pages) for other results - all showing Avenger beating anything else.

The only difference is 1 hex, 2 hexes is the same as 30 hexes as far as bullet spread is concearned. Incidentally, I think I was at max range anyway

XL70 and HPFA will be pretty nice. These types of weapons will be only on high level encounters, so hopefully they won't be too common (if we can get the difficulty right at last).

You mean encounters that will be x10 times stronger than "hard encounter" for one person and x100 times stronger for 10, because this one person will call 9 his friends with radio, so it'll be equal if he'll find it alone and call his friends, this way they will have fair fight?
Like: I'm poor wastelander, alone, oh noes! An encounter!
You encounter: "An army of 50 evil raiders with fn fal HPFA's"

Or just remove this silly encounter multiplier for number of players, because you made radio to avoid it, what reason.

Simply, the avenger is better damage.

Which is questionable to be worth all the extra effort and requirements. But definetly saw it's use already, and will do in future.

However, while it's not hard to pick up something from army of small guns (just to be honest X70 is the least remarkable weapon, as the most fallout players did really never touched it, but still better than implementing caseless amunition)
What would be the counter for those from other weapon types. Yes, gatling laser is going to oneshot anything that will wear worse armor than MA, and above that just do average damage, but still can be sort of a fun - however what's up with melee weapons - they've already gotten ripper or upgraded cattle prods or just megapowerfists for quite some time, yet nobody cares to bring more than spiked knuckles.

And afterall, isn't it just contradiction to promise of making low-tech stuff more useful, when there are weapons of this kind?

Players will always find a way to farm it. Like avengers and gatling are the easiest weapons to farm this wipe at least for me .
