I do have the EW3 crafting profession, and I've already left the Enclave and righted my karma with everyone that hated me for joining them. I come battle-ready with my own armor (MAMK2) and weapons (Laser/Plasma Rifle and a pistol), though batteries are not included.
Right now I'm level 14 with 160% EW, 106% First Aid, and 120% science with 110hp (I'll have 173 at max level). Also at max level, I'll have 155% sneak, which is more or less just due to having 9IN and ton of skill points to put into something fun.
I will serve any purpose that a clan will put me towards, be it good or evil (though I'd honestly prefer something on the macabre side).
