unsafe tents/bases
« on: April 02, 2011, 09:37:50 pm »

Hey. I hope this suggestion isn't was posted before.

Firstly, lets start with tents. How about making them unsafe? Like other players passing through them on world map have a small ( really small ) chance to visit it like "special encounter" ? Chances in % should be really small and they should depend on outdoorsman skill and maybe perks like Cautious Nature, Explorer, Ranger, Pathfinder, Survivalist?

By the way, does explorer perk affects anything in game now ?

Next important thing, after successful tent finding, it WOULDN'T be marked on world map, so player ( thief ) couldn't go back and he can't steal everything, only can take a little ( weight cap ).

If my idea take place, players wouldn't place their tents near town. Now it looks like hundreds of tents are placed near town. Quite not realistic. They will make tents away from towns, in places that players don't go often to make it more safe. +10 to RPG in gameplay i think.

Other thing, once player get tent-raped, he must take all stuff and move to another location, because thief will come back for more ( he couldn't take all stuff in one visit because of weight cap ). Next +10 to "do something in game, not only stay in town and chat". Also +5 to "harshness" in wasteland.

Similar thing to bases...

And now most important things, said mostly to devs:
I know you have many, many more important thing to do like bug killing etc. I don't want you to implement it instantly, but maybe after some months when you finish more important things in your todo list?

Now I just want to know if you guys and devs like my idea and if it could happen some day in 2238 fonline.

Lastly, sorry for my bad English. I tried my best. Wolffik.

Brahmin don't have a lift limit.
This could be good if we could use mines. Lockpick would have a use if you would need to lock the box in your tent.

+ 1 for realism
-2 for gameplay

Yeah, before suggesting anyything, it is worth seriously asking whether it makes the game more fun. I don't think this would. It would be incredibly frustrating and everyone would just resort to 'bank alts' to counter the 'tent discover alts', and I would not blame them.

Good point. So maybe lets make limit for them ? :)

Maybe some argument ?

Do you think people will waste time for switching between alts to keep their items on them if tent encounting will be extremely rare ( but possible ) ? I think people will take risk.

There would be new char build "tent hunter" with high outdoorsman, some perks for it, with merc for keeping stuff and lockpick for opening crate inside tent. Wouldn't it be interesting ? Correct me if I am wrong.

I dont think we need this. We have enough places to fight for. 5 TC cities, 3 HQ mines and reno is pretty enough. With domination mode and change of crafting there will be even more. Players should have some safe places to store their stuff and cars in order not to be pushed to mage zillions of bank alts.

Not simple enough for you?

+1 for realism because it WOULD be realistic
-2 for gameplay because while it would be realistic this is a GAME after all, and while this game is harsh compared to most, that would be overkill, want an argument? "95% chance that 1 shot kills for all guns, because it is realistic"

so -1 from me on this suggestion

As stated above, players would use storage alts. Would you risk loosing your stuff while your not even playing the game?

exactly. it would also make the game harder for casual players (do twe still exist?). as a casual player i gather gear one gaming session. next time i'd play i would go do some pvp or whatever. if i were to relog and by random chance and everything is gone, well that would be... harsh. this game needs to be bogged down less imho.

Players who could afford anything would buy mercs and set them on aggresive mode. Special encounters can't be avoided, so it would basically mean death after spawn.
Playes who are so poor that couldn't afford mercs would be just griefed more and that's also not too positive.
The most expensive stuff would be stored on storage alts.

To sum up, while this suggestions may seem to be good at first, it would be just bad. Unfortunately.

They would. People use alts for so many purposes that mule-alt isn't no where near ridiculous compared to them.

It wouldn't be interesting. Just another alt who doesn't do anything else but waves back and forth in worldmap alone, trying to find tents. And even if he would find any tents, they would be some nub's tents who haven't learned to use mule-alts.

this would suck totally, you would have to have very strong merc trap in every tent or base, and see regular posts of "my tent got raped out of nowhere enough for me with this shit".

If you want to make tents/bases unsafe...

I think Sneak should allow you to follow players without charisma, of course you'd have to shadow run with them when they hit encounters and take another chance trying to follow.  (based off your sneak skill %).

Then Power chars without charisma no longer could avoid followers, also sneaking followers shouldn't be listed unless %sneak vs player pcn or something fails

Longer you follow, bigger the chance for failure obviously.

I may have to make a new suggestion for this :(
