well i normally go for more of stealthy build if thats what you mean

well you can always be a stealth based build, just have high INT. maybe skilled trait and educated perk ASAP and dump all points into sneak, get ghost and maybe harmless for stealing (if you want to level up stealing from eye crippled npcs if I recall you can get 100xp constantly for a sucessful +5 steals)

it's bad that sneak is kind of useless though and requiring some work, why would a throwing knife break your sneak? :S

ST 4
PE 6
EN 6
CH 3
IN 6
AG 9 (+1 with small frame)
LK 6

trait small frame, fast shot

perks:
awareness / toughness / packrat
bonus ranged dmg (new players sometimes ignore this because of only +2 dmg, but remember that it's +2 per bullet, so in a burst is a lot)
bonus ranged dmg
life giver
life giver
bonus rate of fire
toughness

tag: smallguns, first aid, outdoorsman

That's a beginner friendly build

If you want it to be more combative:
switch to 8en, 1ch
same traits, same tags
perks:
toughness
bonus ranged dmg
bonus ranged dmg
life giver
bonus rate of fire
action boy
action boy

You will be able to do 3bursts but you can't carry friends or talk with most NPCs

Thats really a good beginners build. If you tag repair instead of first aid, and put some points into science too,
you can easily become small guns crafter lv3 with this build. You will only need a buffout to get the lv3 prof,
and a mentat if you choose the 1charisma option.
