[Contest] Monologue script for FO2238 Intro - Voting thread!
« on: January 11, 2011, 08:56:32 pm »

We have seven entries. The voting will take one week starting from now. Results are hidden and will be revealed automatic after voting time will pass.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. War... War never changes. Through the history the man always have been obsessed with ability to control his own fate. This lust lead to obtaining more knowledge. In twenty century mankind learnt how to use power of atom. But war never changes... and this dream of power was cut of. In 2077 the bombs fell and filled sky with light of thousands suns. Over tomb of lost civilisation, filled with cruelty that was never seen before the new world was born. Only fittest survived. In 2238 their grandchildren managed to establish new governments and sins forgotten long ago are being uncharted. Mankind again starts to dream...

2. War... war never changes. Over its existence, mankind has seen many empires, armies or smaller groups that claimed some land their own with all of its wealth.
Great kings and warlords rose to take the belongings of the weaker. Destruction and death were everlasting companions of these times.
Everything for the land and its resources. The end of the world occurred because of the same reason. But this time, no swords or guns were used to achieve victory... A nuclear spark bursting into a global firestorm devouring nearly all life on our planet. Somehow, mankind didn't completely vanish from the face of the earth. Many sought shelter in large underground bunkers, called vaults. Some might have been just lucky enough to be at a better place at the right time. People are wandering through the remains of the countries and cities, trying to survive. Some try to build a new home for what's left of humanity,
some are roaming the radioactive wasteland looting and murdering. What will you do in this hostile world? Because war never changes, in 2238.

3. War... War never changes... Struggling for survival... Developing new weapons... Killing "enemies" for your country while dying for it... An natural thing for a human to do...That was before 2077 October 23 when the apocalypse happened... Almost everything was wiped off from the face of the Earth there were only few survivors... But we are not here to tell about that... We are here to talk about the present... 2238, when most the vaults started to open up... New California republic started expanding even further... New organizations started forming up and fighting over territories got more and more intense... Just when the peace was forming up... BUT war never changes...

4. War. War never changes. Few still live to tell the tales of the horrific day where the sky was cracked open and the sun came down scorching the Earth's surface. Everything drenched in radioactive fire laying Mother Nature's beauty to waste. In the year 2238, nearly 160 years since that fateful day, scars still remain of the Great War between the flags of the countries of old, China and the USA. The world is a dangerous wasteland full of all sorts mutants, brutal gangs of raiders, and a hostile environment killing many who aren't ready to face the challenges of the wasteland. However society has began to redevelop as time has progressed. Some groups have made it there business to preserve the past, either by recovering powerful technology or preserving knowledge once precious to humanity. North of these groups lies a great nation, the New California republic, rallying beneath the flag of the great bear; a nation much like the one of old. The NCR has annexed many towns and hope to restore democracy. However the Enclave intends to return America's former glory, by much more nefarious means. Many towns lie north of the great NCR including a refuge for mutants and humans alike, a city where the great lights and pleasures of the old world reside, a great city where a large group of survivors witnessed the miracles of Vault-tec's technology before there eyes, and a town of scum resorting to an ancient practice on preying on the weak that was abolished many centuries before. Yet there are others just trying to eke out and existence in the harsh wasteland, surviving the everyday horrors they are exposed to. The wasteland is an eternal battlefield where many unknown souls perish in the desert, their existence wiped clean by the sand. And war. War never changes.

5. War. War never changes. Even though decades have passed since the bombs fell and the world we once had known turned into a pile of radioactive ashes, bloodshed still endures in the newly created wasteland. Deep underground vaults, originally designated to give birth to a new generation of humans, instead spawned swarms of scavengers to plunder the burned ruins of the former California. Hordes of mutated monsters stride the scorched deserts and packs of raiders chase loners through the ever so silent mountains. Only few managed to hold out in this harsh world, forming new communities to enhance their chance of survival In the year 2238, the New Californian Republic, once a small battered village with the name Shady Sands, became the most powerful and respected faction, able to control large areas of land. The proud Brotherhood of Steel relied on their knowledge and technology to maintain a last stronghold against any evil in the middle of nowhere, and the mysterious enclave widened its influence on the mainland, using upgraded pre-war machinery. But war never changes. The small towns and villages of the far north could not develop such strength and prosperity. Their fate lies in the hands of rivalling, marauding gangs, striving to dominate the wasteland. Countless battles unravelled the true face of Man, the utmost barbaric existence, driven on by nothing more than the sheer will to survive. At last, the world has fallen back to the state of nature and it lies in your hands to change it.

6. War, war never changes... War was with the humanity since it's exist. Since humans started to form tribes, then kingdoms, countries and even empires they needed war to push forward, but war never changes. In 21st century insane greed for natural resources released the most primitive of human's instincts. China invaded Alaska, Americans counter-attacked and annexed their north neighbours. Rest of the world spited to small countries which fought each other for the last remaining resources. In 2054, one of American corporations, West-Tek maintained the Project Safehouse, a system of fallout shelters called the Vaults, to save the people in case of nuclear attack. In 2077 the spirit of nuclear devastation haunted the Earth. In two short, dark hours human civilization has been turned into ashes and dust. Many Vaults were sealed without many people, due to Cry Wolf effect. Few survived, and this few was the last hope of humanity to rebuild the civilization from the ashed. In 2238, doors of Vaults 7, 14 and 17 was opened and it's dwellers faced a crucial opportunity to leave their shelters and start to live anew. Sandstorms, raider attacks, dangerous mutants dispelled the expeditions and from this time, without equipment and knowledge of the outside world, dwellers have to act on their own, facing the dangers of the post-nuclear reality. Their lifes are about to change...

7. War, War never changes. Nobody knows who initiated the exchange.  However, there would be no disputing the result. In the span of mere moments, the actions of a few changed the course of history and the world. Some believed it was an act of god, retribution, for the sins of human kind. The survivors, tried to rebuild the best they could, and for a while, they were successful. But like man, war never changes. Hatred, distrust, paranoia, purely human concepts, again pre-vailed. In 2238, the law is neatly summed up in one simple phrase, "The wasteland is harsh". It is a time of tremendous good, and great evil. Humanity again will be forced to decide whether it will save or doom itself. What will you do?

(I know it was written that it should be in) but I find all these "War never changes" so horrible... When do people get that its meaning is long overused and abused that it rather sounds like a chore but a decent introduction narrating...

As for the contest I liked numero 4 the most. It's a bit lengthy, but very close to the FO1 narration, which I like.
The parts with the NCR and Enclave for example can be scrapped imo - then it's an excellent one.
Gotta say the others are all nice in their own way too.Good job done there to all of the participants.

I don't want to derail, but is there any thread discussing intro, or at least describing what's going on?
If yes, please link it in first post.

I have to agree on the 4th one being the best, just make sure whichever one wins gets spell checked.

Number 4 seems not overally neutral to me, a bit too much "godbless" NCR feeling i got (they are not "good" guys if there is such thing, if you now think otherwise, think twice). I go for number 5, fairly neutral, i would cut the BOS part though, they seem somehow out of space. I mean, normal wastelander doesint know much or cares about BoS, and its those we play as not?

Well, just making a balance.

Well, I tihnk it's kind of "unfair", seeing as entry 2 is formatted with paragraphs and the others aren't. Some spelling mistakes and stuff could also be fixed.

I voted for 7. Why? I don't know because it has "something" who makes it good.

More like that one.

http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/thorbor/music/play921660

song plays automatically.

Due to copyright reasons, I can't post the version with the fallout 2 speech and some game sounds implemented. Just imagine a speech over the intro.
