Crafting suggestion that includes food
« on: January 24, 2010, 08:12:46 pm »

Currently you first have to manage with little cooldowns while gathering and crafting materials, then you have to deal with the big cooldown from the actual end product.

Why not make it so that you can gather large quantities of same material and get one big cooldown?
The food system would drop in here. It's not really necessary, but would open up new trade slots to players to fulfill.
To gather large quantities, you need food because it's time and energy consuming work. You could decide how much you want to gather but you have to have enough food items with you. Food would have nutrition levels. Low level crafters could do fine with fruits, medicore level dudes would need meat and 21 level guys would need those pre-war food items or iquanas on stick. Otherwise everyone would just use fruits.

Having bigger cooldowns provide more free time for players to spend on something else than waiting for gathering cooldowns to end. It wouldn't ruin the economy because same ammount of stuff would still float around.

There should be a digestion limit, otherwise players will just eat and craft.
But i like the idea. The cooldown won't be neutralised but reduced a bit and food will actually be a useful "drug".
