Cars being stolen without the key.
« on: December 18, 2010, 05:39:20 am »

Why are cars stealable without the key? Thats a friggin joke.
Its called lockpick not Hotwire.

Seriously.....I want my focking highwayman back.
So the guy who stole it, can now just use his finger to start the car? LOL

Ox.

EDIT: Sure, buy a car, travel around in style, but dont EVER take it to a town, How fucking boring.

Investing in lock pick better give some tradeoffs. Too bad lockpicker is just another alt.

so for some expensive lulz to combat the magic fingers of locksmith car stealers, would it be viable to stuff the trunk full of explosives and set the timer before rolling into town such that said car thief drives off to his/her tent/base only to explode in the process?

or if timed too quickly take out those would-be theives in town whilst in the process obliterating the car   8)

The car-owner loses 40k and lockpicker just dies and respawns without any cost.

at the very least a bruised ego if that is the thief's very first stolen car but i didnt mean to be taken seriously on this.

The theif should have to steal the key, to drive the car, THAT is a viable option.
How about putting these thieves to the test.

1.Enter sneak mode and remain undetected. (Good luck with all those guards watching ur grubby little hands)
2.Successfully steal the key.
3.Drive off in car.

Only trunk should/can be lockpicked.
I highly doubt any of these thieves hav a High repair or science, which would be needed if hotwiring was possible.

Edit:This would make thieves actually pick their targets, instead of just wazlting up, and how's your mum?

Serious or not, having a car stolen and then detonating it, taking out the criminal would be totally a badass thing to do. Too bad with current game settings the joke would be on the car owner since life has no value in Fonline.

Devs love wasteland is harsh.  Primary playerbase of Fonline loves wasteland is harsh.   Result?

More wastelabnd is  harsh.

Its funny even the wasteland  is harsh folks are bitching whether it be tc glitch or insta kill mercs.

Continue adding moar wasteland is harsh and watch this game turn into a flaming pile of garbage.

I like more Wasteland is Harsh.
Cars in FOnline are pieces of scrap thrown together by T-Ray at his garage.  He gives you a key to open the car doors, but the ignition doesn't have a key, it's just a knob or something.  Look at it like that, and go buy another highwayman.

And regarding being able to blow up cars....  well yes, that was a joke.  But it would be great if cars could be damaged.  Give 'em 5000 HP, and make it separate than deterioration, and make the HP not repairable.
Stray bursts around your car?  Better be careful...

Highwaymans by looks and in Fallout lore are salvaged old technology.  Everything works the same besides certain parts needing replacement IE fuel cell controller or regulator.  The knobs suggestion is a convenient excuse to ignore realism and justify "moar wasteland is harsh".

Again realism here is pick and choose and most often only used when to justify "more wasteland is harsh" which is incredibly one sided.

What would make more sense is to lower the availability of cars to truly improvised cars and balance travel between roads/wilds.  Outdoorsman would be a huge boon to folks who prefer to travel through mountains and other tough terrains yet roads offer speed/yet more dangers and won't necessarily take you everywhere (the whole bombed out bridges/huge craters/and collapsed buildings, etc).

Hmm. I met once a guy on encounter. Did not shoot him and even healed. He told me he got 2 cars in VC one by one.
1 highwayman lockpicked and 1 scout stolen with a key.

Descent luck must I say. I dont see cars in town often. However I drive in for some quick pick ups
