Nuka Cola Machines
« on: November 21, 2010, 04:46:37 pm »

I was wondering about an option to buy nuka cola from machines like it was in Fallout2. Currently cola can be bought in bars (100 caps/each) it would be nice to have an opportunity to buy it in same prices from machines.

You can make it with fruit and 2 SECs already, but in these fridges of couse, but in nuka-machine, see wiki for more info. So why do someone need also buy it from... fridges?

I have no problem with there being a small chance to find one in those machines in random city encounters, but, of course, because it is just map scenery, it would have to be turned into a click-able object for it to work.

You do realize that its almost 200 years after the war and there are barely any bottles left in the machines, not even speaking about the electronics which are needed to give cola bottle when cap is thrown in? ;)

You could make it random, 5 caps, sometimes you get 1 junk (or something less usefull, like empty bottle if there is one, or poisoned nukecola) and sometimes you get a nukecola, like the cars and fuel controller. If you dont get good nukecola you could shot down the machine and get your 5 caps back (would be waste of ammo though).

Well, a counter-idea i guess  ;)

Either way, i think it doesint brake the game to enchance encounters with some interactivity. Could be nice with some "quest" NPCs as well.

Maybe the machines were constantly vandalized/hacked prewar so they ended up like public telphones- built like battleships.

At least the old US ones were like that.
creepily related yet tangential.

A shotgun could handle it to get these dellicious 200 year old cola you might find. I mean if every cola-mashine is empty why the hell some cars still have functioning parts after 200 years. ;)

Wait, so you're saying that the same communities that are well capable of producing (2238) and modifying/servicing (canon) prewar military laser and plasma rifles and are running their own power grids/water supply and so on would be incapable of fixing a few refrigerators? Especially since according to the fluff it's still a popular drink, so it'd actually make sense to have pretty hi-tech places like the NCR or Hub having working machines at least in the most frequented bars/saloons. Heck, I'd say that having some limited production going on by the time of Fallout 2 storyline wouldn't be that much of a stretch considering the fact that the first game played on the theme that there were actual addicts (ie. people consuming it in large quantities) out there.

Ideally, I would like to make these machines and the Cigarette machines we got skej to make into something interesting in Reno - something small scale PvP could be fought over.

Unnecessary, the drug shops, hypodermics, etc, are already good enough resources to fight over now.  Seeing as everyone fights there practically 24/7.  (It's already a huge pvp beacon, more than TC)

I think it would be better at Gecko or Den.  (once something about militia is done of course)

Gecko - inner reactor
Den - west side
