Radio user identifying
« on: November 05, 2010, 03:28:00 pm »

Last update added neat feature that works like "general" chat in wasteland, where everyone flames/whines/curses etc. It's a good step forward in adding social options in Fonline, but it lacks NAMES so that the speaker is responsible for what is he writing. Enabling this could make this radio "chat" self-sufficient, so that we don't have to use IRC or voice-comms for every distant PlayerToPlayer interaction.

How it should work ?
Best approach is to have them visible by default, but if we want to keep it as real as it can be, it might work like this:
- No one has name tag -> you just hear voice, but you dont know who's speaking
- To be able to recognize someone on radio, you need to meet this character(player) and read(hear) certain ammount of characters when he's typing(speaking) -> invisible counter for each person is filling when he's typing something, even nonsense, because you're interested only in memorizing person's voice
- How many characters would be determined by PE + IN check, ranging from 50 to 1k chars for example ( the higher sum of PE+IN, the better / less characters required to memorize )
- After "accumulating" required chars, from now on, if the character you were listening to is writing something on radio, you know exactly who is he by seeing his NAME tag on the radio

NOTE: It would work only for that logged character (like RED/GREEN tagging), if you want to recognize voice from the same person with another character, you need to repeat the process

I hope it is readable, if there are any questions regarding this I will try to answer them.

Furthermore, all bought/looted/crafter radios should have turned off receiving OR having random channel - now is everyone flooding channel 0 :)

Guess it makes sense. Go to ncr, get afk, know everybody's voice. Maybe everyone will start to whisper if this gets implemented.

Could we in addition have a small button in the interface, or a command to the radio where we would automatically identify ourselves regardless of the listeners? It's problematic for longer names.

I like this idea, but amount of characters needed for recognition should be 1) Unknown and 2) Huge. Like, you're not going to spam a guy before you go hunting. It should take longer.

Unknown for sure, but the amount should be up to devs. Friends should identify each other on most occasions, but you also might identify someone on radio just from random mumbling in a city if hes very talkative.

I agree, but it's abuseable, unfortunately. Or maybe only for people that stay in Shady Sands talking all day. If they do this, they deserve to be recognized

Personally, Im not finding anything wrong with abusing this system. If a group of friends wants to be recognized on radio - fine, their choice. With this suggestion I rationally explained how name tags can appear on radios, while preserving hidden identity of players, who dont want to be recognized.

Just suggestion to devs, if you plan to do this, make it on server-side to not abuse this system with fake packets ;)
And yes, I support it ;}
It can be done just by adding something like when player recive msg from radio, on server side is sending too who send it (added on end of text /jan0s1k for example)

but it's abuseable
Like there actually was one thing that is not abuseable in this game. Everything is abuseable. Let's not implement anything! Let's remove everything!

I'm not talking about hacking now, but about abusing it like admins sometimes abuse their privelenges... Everyone can do that, but if he's doing that in too big scale, the way he shouldn't be doing, it's called an abuse.
I was quoting Izual's post, not yours. My answer had nothing to do with your post actually ;)
