The thing about not modificating the timeline is because the devs might be planning a really big event when we reach the day in which the Chosen One left Arroyo in search for the GECK. Some really, really big and cool event.

I think it's pretty obvious... or at least I hope they do something like that because it wiould be awesome.

no, the exact opposite, i have saved and taxi'd many new players from encounters to towns. If I encountered the chosen one I would do my best to help them on their way, though I would be doubtful they could complete all of their objectives before being PK'd for lolz.
