Party system
« on: May 02, 2010, 01:18:10 pm »

I've been playing Diablo 2 again recently and after a few hours of game, I noticed how the party system of it is great and would fit FOnline perfectly.

To make it short, in FOnline you would tag someone. This someone would be noticed by a message (In bottom-left box) and to accept you would open a window by pressing a key (Like Inventory, Pip-Boy, etc). This window would show the people in your party, and the people waiting to be accepted in it. Once you are in a party with someone, you can follow him on the worldmap, and also share experience with him.

Here is how it works in Diablo 2 :

Before you accept to join (Here, people invite you, when in FOnline YOU should ask to be invited by tagging the leader) :

When you have accepted :

In Diablo, you can see where are people in your party and their level. Of course, this shouldn't be the same in FOnline. However, you can share experience with them. I don't know the exact formula, but everybody in the party (If they are on same map) get the same experience when a mob dies, and the one that kills the mob gets a bonus.

-------------------

Here is a quick attempt to show how it would work in FOnline :

1) Someone tags you.

2) You press a key (Like E for Example) and a window appears :

3) People in your party share experience with you and can follow you on worldmap (With "Do you want to follow...?" window). If someone has tagged you you can just click X to remove him from list. If someone logs off, after 20 seconds he is removed from party.

Pros :
- Easy experience sharing system.
- Not exploitable (You only need to press a button).
- It can be fast with a button like "ACCEPT ALL" or "CANCEL ALL".
- No more people that tag you to follow you.

Cons :
- Has to be implemented.

mmm... this "party window" don't require a change on engine system?

Anyway, I already suggested the "sharing experience" system  ;)

If a party is composed of a level 21 player and a level 5 player, the level 5 player almost earns nothing with shared experience, as in any other MMORPGs.

Well I know nothing about engines and so on, but I think it can be done without change.

Yes, but your suggestion is different than mine ; since the party system I'm suggesting handles more than just shared experience.

I just suggested about sharing experience but more deeply... I think a "fusion" of the 2 suggestions is good  :D

Well it sounds good. I don't see reason why I should be against it so I support it.

I ve played D2 pvp for about 8-9 years (leagues, tournaments, different kinds of rules etc.), so I am kinda expert in that .)
I support this idea. Btw if I remind well, experiences are shared fairly without bonus for kill. Also If there in the party were only chars above 90 lvl, this party got more exp than party built from 90 + fe 85 levels.

If a party is composed of a level 21 player and a level 5 player, the level 5 player almost earns nothing with shared experience, as in any other MMORPGs.

In D2 it wasnt exactly this system. It didnt depend on level. If u were level 5 you earnt nice exp on lower creatures and almost nothing on highend creatures. so u could be leveled up by your m8s who killed low creatures eazyly for you.
But your system is better imo

Ah, I see. Well, that's a detail that can be fixed easily by allowing a certain % of experience share based on the player's level.

Current party system is the worst that I've encountered in MMO (free/beta mmos...) and changing it should be priority no.1 since mmo is all about party/raid. And this idea seems like a good way to go.
