SDK release consequences
« on: August 28, 2010, 10:32:06 am »

Is there any SDK release consequences in the Fonline project?

I mean, do you think about collaboration with players? Look at the suggestion forum and the number of players. If only 1/10 could create even basic content (quest, map locations, scripts), it could be great benefit to the game.

Also it is the way how to kill disapointment from boredom in this stage of fonline. I think that many gangs have ideas and people who have abilities, so there could exist team projects.

Of course, it is your game, but there is no reason why this should change. You can set requirements of quest/map locations/... and if the result of players work would be different, you have right to not integrate it.

 By players for players.

P.S.: Cvet write on fonline.ru that SDK with documentation will be released at the end of this month.

There is a difference between actually having the SDK and being able to do something with it.
Its not just switching some buttons and turning some knobs and you magically have a new game.
It also takes some time to make new people used to the fonline code and the workstyle of the team.
Time which is needed elsewhere.

So solution is one upgrade per half of a year, or spend 3 months of teaching somebody (maybe less), who will produce 3x more content than original devs..

I hope that there will exist another project, open to players, if fonline will not give that possibilities.

The reality is that most players who would like to participate in game development is not really able to develop anything. Most of the rest can't do anything with good enough quality. And most of the rest of the rest don't have enough motivation to work hard on a project for several months or years. If there will appear some new team making a new game, good for them, but if you expect any results or "consequences" a couple days after SDK release, you are just silly. If you really see less people in server, it's not because of SDK for sure.

I absolutely agree. And I would like to highlight
if you expect any results or "consequences" a couple days after SDK release, you are just silly.
as the only proper answer to skejwen's post.
