Heh, I've went through the 'obligatory' metal(with emphasis on Metallica) period, from that time I think I value ...And Justice For All the most... Not a bad piece of thrashing, interesting production.

But that was long ago and no one even remember that, time to move on and discover new stuff (so keep that thread alive!). Lately I dug that song.

Hey Surf,
as a Post Rock fan, what do you think about TORTOISE :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IojbJvx_Gtk

Ofcourse. :) "I set my face to the hillside" is my favorite, funny enough that this is the first video that youtube suggests to me. :P This' more guitar music, jazz though, but one can hear the "amerikanskii" sound out of it. ;) European post-rock bands mostly are less rough, more reverb filled/atmospheric. But I like both.

Now, to add something totally random, some "emo" music (true emo, not that shit known as emo nowadays)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVrVayeXzpo&feature=related

Or here, get some A silver mount zion. The most "punk" band currently on our humble planet.
"13 angels standing around your bed" is probably the most depressing thing I have ever heard. So beware clicking on that link, especially if you are in a certain mood. :D

oh yeah, Toroise is one of the best bands from the 90s at least for me. Their Tortoise, Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT are great. "Djed" is a favourite of mine I think, just listen to the whole song focused and on headphones, especially when it's getting dark, pure genius.

A Silver Mt. Zion is also nice, especially He Has Left Us Alone..., people from Godspeed You! Black Emperor play here afaik.

OK, and this because it turned out I'm gonna see Peter Hook performing Unknown Pleasures...but instead of Joy Division (which was mentioned here already I think), we're gonna listen to some New Order.

It's time for Surfs official boredeompos secret music tips!

I'm gonna throw out some bands/tracks which are barely known, but worth considering a listen.

Starting with Three More Shallows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDkEHvba-GM&feature=related

Some good guitar music, mixed with tweepop thingies.
___

Nisennmondai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PquFSe7TlVI

Awesome japanese girlband. Noise/Kraut/Wave.

___
Emeralds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUPJofuMNtE

Good ambient. Heh.

___
Bowerbirds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiqhuYe_Z70

Some good folk(?). Crazy shit, they live in wooden huts in Carolina and make this music. :)

___
Stars of the Lid (well, not THAT unknown though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PE50PZG5aw

Really good ambient. (again)

___
Jesus And Mary Chain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noeTCf8PLuc

Everyone should know and dance with 20 other sweaty nerd people in a fucked up basement indie club to it.

___
Swell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P0_tHIJISQ

Good "slowcore".
___

Well, w/e. :D

Oh, Jesus and Mary Chain, what a great band...
Thanks for those links, Surf, I especially enjoyed the japanese girls with their robotic drummer and Swell.

Here is a video clip from Les Savy Fav, a rock band from New York :
